PROMOS International Scholarships With September 2025 Deadline

Are you currently enrolled at a German university and planning a study abroad experience, research project, or internship outside the EU Erasmus+ zone? Here’s your chance to secure funding! The PROMOS International Scholarships — funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and managed by the DAAD — are now open for applications for the September 15, 2025 deadline at all German universities.

What is the PROMOS Scholarship?

The PROMOS Scholarship Program was established in 2010 by the DAAD to support short-term study and research stays abroad. This prestigious scholarship is aimed at helping students gain valuable international experience while contributing to global academic exchange and sustainable development.

PROMOS Scholarship Benefits

  • Monthly stipend starting at €350, depending on the destination
  • Scholarships typically last 3–4 months
  • No travel expenses are covered
  • Additional financial support may be available for students with chronic illness or disabilities (≥50% disability ID required)

Funding is partial and does not include organizational support, so students are responsible for planning their own trips.

Who Can Apply?

The PROMOS scholarship is open to:

  • Students currently enrolled in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programs at any German university
  • Both German and international students
  • Students not planning to study in their home country (defined by residency over the last 5 years)

Doctoral candidates (except those in medicine) are not eligible and should refer to alternative DAAD fellowships.

What Types of Stays Are Funded?

PROMOS supports:

  • Semester-long study abroad programs (1–4 months)
  • Internships abroad (6 weeks minimum, outside Erasmus+ and DAAD special programs)
  • Thesis research stays (up to 4 months)

❗ Note: PROMOS does not fund internships at institutions like UN, EU bodies, Goethe Institutes, or other DAAD special program organizations. Check the DAAD website for ineligible hosts.

Eligible Destinations

  • Any non-EU Erasmus+ countries
  • Destinations not under travel warnings or classified high-risk by Germany’s Foreign Office
  • The UK is excluded from PROMOS; check Erasmus+ options for that

⚠️ Stays in Russia are currently suspended unless students were already pre-selected.

  • Application Deadline: September 15, 2025
  • Application Portal Opens: August 15, 2025
  • Selection Results Notification: Late October to Early November 2025
