Program Overview

The OIST Research Internship Program is designed for students in STEM fields and typically lasts 3 to 6 months. Selected interns will engage in active research within OIST’s laboratories, working alongside faculty members. This experience provides exposure to advanced research techniques and fosters a deeper understanding of scientific methodologies.

Successful applicants will receive financial and logistical support, including:

  • Internship Allowance: 2,400 JPY per working day
  • Commuting Allowance: Access to OIST Shuttle Bus Pass
  • Travel Expenses: A round-trip air ticket for international and domestic travel
  • Accommodation: Furnished housing on or off campus
  • Visa and Administrative Support: OIST assists with the Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) for visa applications. and other registration processes.

Eligibility Criteria

The program is open to students who meet the following requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in the last two years of a bachelor’s degree or any year of a master’s degree
  • Recent graduates with a bachelor’s or master’s degree who are interested in pursuing a PhD at OIST
  • Students from universities, colleges, junior colleges, and vocational schools in Japan or overseas
  • Approval from the home institution is required for currently enrolled students.
