This prestigious scholarship supports outstanding international students to pursue undergraduate degrees at one of China’s top universities. However, some programs are not eligible, so read carefully before applying.
What Programs Are Eligible?
The Shanghai Government Scholarship 2025 at ECNU is open for full-time undergraduate degree programs, except:
- 2+2 or 1+3 joint degree programs
- English-taught bachelor’s degree programs
- BA programs under the School of International Chinese Studies
All other undergraduate programs taught in Chinese are available for application.
Who Can Apply?
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a non-Chinese citizen in good health
- Strong academic and behavioral performance
- For pre-college programs: under 23 years old with a high school diploma
- For undergraduate programs: under 25 years old with a high school diploma
Language Proficiency:
- Applicants must meet the Chinese language requirements of their selected major
- Students with HSK Level 3 can apply for a 1-year pre-college program with a full scholarship. If they fail to meet major requirements after this program, they’ll continue as Chinese language students.
ECNU Shanghai Government Scholarship Package
There are two types of Shanghai government scholarship packages in 2025:
Type A – Full Scholarship

- Tuition fee waived
- Free accommodation (economic double room with shared restroom), OR off-campus living allowance: 700 RMB/month
- Living allowance: 2500 RMB/month
- Medical insurance: 800 RMB/year.
Type B – Partial Scholarship

- Medical insurance: 800 RMB/year.
