Shenzhen University CSC Scholarships 2027 Open: No IELTS – No Application Fee

Shenzhen University scholarships for March 2027 PhD entry are now open in China, with the Liyuan International Scholarship offering a tuition waiver and a monthly living allowance. If you are comparing doctoral offers, look beyond the largest stipend. Which programme matches your research, and which supervisor could support it? SZU’s programme catalogue includes English-taught options, but your academic fit still needs to convince a prospective supervisor.

That is the first practical hurdle: you must obtain an SZU supervisor’s recommendation before submitting your application. Funding also deserves a careful look. The advertised scholarships have different benefits, while accommodation, insurance and the application fee remain costs you need to plan for.

Start by checking your eligibility, shortlist a suitable programme and supervisor, then build your application around evidence from your previous research. Here is how to work through those decisions for the open March intake.

Is the March 2027 SZU PhD route right for you?
Status: Applications open for March 2027 doctoral entry.
Basic eligibility: Non-Chinese citizenship, master’s degree or above, and under 40.
Study commitment: Full-time; normally 3–4 years, depending on the programme.
Main bottleneck: A prospective SZU supervisor’s recommendation is required.
Funding decision: Several awards are listed; admission does not itself confirm your scholarship.
Timing: Complete the university application by the deadline below.
Official information checked: 12 October 2026.

01 Who can apply, and which programmes are available?

You need to meet the nationality, qualification, age, health and language requirements for your chosen doctorate. Final-year master’s students may apply with an expected-graduation certificate, but must obtain their degree before enrolment.

The catalogue includes Computer Science and Technology, Information and Communications Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Optical Engineering, Management Science and Engineering, Education and Psychology. Professional doctorates include Artificial Intelligence, Integrated Circuit Engineering and Optoelectronic Information Engineering.

Check the language marker beside the exact programme: an asterisk means Chinese instruction; unmarked entries are English-taught. Chinese-taught study requires HSK 5 with at least 180 points. English-taught study requires English proficiency evidence, but the brochure gives no universal IELTS or TOEFL score. Native speakers may receive a university-approved exemption; an English-medium degree is not an automatically stated waiver.

Before contacting anyone, ask yourself: can I explain how my master’s work connects to this programme? A precise research connection will make your next step much easier.

02 What do Shenzhen University’s scholarships actually cover?

Liyuan combines a tuition waiver with living support; the provincial and municipal awards list annual cash amounts. Compare the award you are offered before deciding whether the placement is affordable.

Award Published benefit
Liyuan: first class Tuition waiver + CNY 6,000/month
Liyuan: second class Tuition waiver + CNY 5,000/month
Liyuan: third class Tuition waiver + CNY 4,000/month
Guangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship CNY 30,000/year
Shenzhen Universiade Scholarship CNY 40,000/year

Supervisors also provide at least CNY 12,000 annually for research subsidies or academic exchanges. Treat that as research support when planning your personal budget.

You pay dormitory charges yourself: published semester rates range from CNY 2,400–8,000 at Yuehai, with a CNY 750 double-room rate at Lihu. Utilities are extra; insurance costs CNY 800/year. Confirm room availability, award duration, renewal conditions and whether awards can be combined with SZU before accepting an offer.

03 How do you secure the required supervisor recommendation?

Contact a supervisor listed for this intake and obtain SZU’s prescribed recommendation document. This is required in addition to two academic references.

Make the first email useful: introduce your master’s research, explain the connection to the professor’s work, attach your CV and ask whether they can consider supervising you. Our professor-email examples can help with wording; adapt the funding reference to this SZU call.

Instead of “I am passionate about your research,” describe a method you have used and a question you hope to investigate. Use only truthful examples. A supervisor can assess a concrete connection much more easily than broad praise.

Request your two academic references early too. The China scholarship recommendation-letter guide offers preparation help, while SZU’s own requirements govern submission.

04 How do you submit the admission and scholarship application?

Apply through SZU’s international-student system after arranging supervisor support. Follow these stages:

  1. Select your programme and supervisor. Use the March 2027 supervisor directory, then obtain the recommendation using the template attached to the brochure.
  2. Prepare your uploads. Read the official admission brochure and attachments. Required materials include master’s certificates or expected-graduation evidence, transcripts, two professor/associate-professor references, a roughly 1,500-word Chinese/English personal statement, passport copy and photo, supervisor recommendation, language evidence, CV from primary school onward, physical-examination form, criminal-record report with Chinese translation, and a bank statement showing at least CNY 30,000 in your or your legal guardian’s account. Translate and notarize documents in other languages. Your passport must expire after 30 June 2027.
  3. Address funding explicitly. Upload the Guangdong scholarship form if applying for that award. Ask admissions how Liyuan class allocation and Universiade consideration are handled; the brochure does not explain their separate selection steps. Keep the bank statement requirement in your file even when seeking funding.
  4. Pay and submit. Register in the March 2027 doctoral application portal. Enter personal and visa details, upload documents and the payment voucher. The non-refundable fee is RMB 400/USD 60, paid to SZU’s designated account before submission.
  5. Monitor the result. Check your email and portal, prepare for a possible interview, and retain originals for enrolment verification.

For your statement, connect your research experience to the intended programme and supervisor. Explain what you personally contributed, which methods you used and what you learned; do not let an achievement list replace your academic reasoning.

05 Application Deadline Shenzhen CSC Scholarship March 2027

The last date to apply for the March 2027 international doctoral intake with scholarship opportunities offered by Shenzhen University is 30 November 2026. The application period runs from 10 October to 30 November 2026; the brochure states no closing hour.

Pre-admission results are scheduled for December 2026, followed by admission documents in January 2027. Enrolment takes place on the date in your admission notice. The brochure does not announce separate Liyuan or Universiade scholarship deadlines.

Your next moves are concrete: choose a research match, contact the supervisor and start collecting references. Once the required recommendation is secured, complete the remaining uploads and submit early enough to resolve any missing-document issue.
