Southeast University CSC Scholarship 2027 for MS & Phd Admissions Process Explained

Your next research project could become a fully funded master’s or PhD at Southeast University in China. SEU has published its Chinese Government Scholarship High Level Postgraduate Program 2027 notice, inviting non-Chinese applicants to prepare for the forthcoming application window.

The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, a living stipend and comprehensive medical insurance. Its advertised programmes range from transportation, architecture and electronics to doctoral research in medicine, economics, humanities and environmental fields. English-taught options are available, but the language choices differ by major.

Where should you apply first, and do you need a professor’s acceptance before submitting? SEU’s process begins with the university application; the CSC submission follows its pre-admission decision. This guide explains how to choose your programme, prepare the right evidence and complete those stages in order.

SEU 2027: full funding, with a university-first application
Status: 2027 call announced; applications have not opened as of the verification date.
Who can apply: Non-Chinese citizens worldwide meeting the degree, age and programme requirements.
Study: Master’s and PhD programmes at Southeast University, China; no bachelor’s places under this call.
Funding: Tuition, accommodation, living stipend and medical insurance; international travel excluded.
English: IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo; the notice exempts applicants where English is the native or official language.
Application fee: A payment stage follows initial review; the 2027 brochure does not specify the amount.
Timing: SEU application window first, then a separate CSC deadline in your pre-admission letter. See all dates below.
Official information checked: 24 October 2026, against SEU’s 2027 notice and bilingual application brochure.

01 What will SEU fund, and which degree can you pursue?

The SEU CSC Scholarship provides full scholarship coverage for the advertised master’s and doctoral routes. Tuition, accommodation, living support and comprehensive medical insurance are included. The brochure does not state the stipend amount, and international travel costs are explicitly excluded, so budget separately for flights and application-related expenses.

Your degree choice determines both the commitment and the available teaching language:

SEU route Duration Programme and language choices
Master’s Usually 3 years; English-taught Engineering Management is 2 years. English options include transportation, electronic and information engineering, civil engineering, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, electronic science and technology, engineering management, and control science and engineering.
PhD 4 years. Chinese or English options span many engineering, architecture, mathematics, biology, economics, management and environmental fields. Several other subjects are listed as Chinese-taught only.

The master’s list also includes mechanical engineering, materials science, biomedical engineering, computer science, instrumental science, management science and civil engineering construction and management. These entries are not labelled English-taught in the brochure. At doctoral level, Chinese-only entries include clinical and basic medicine, public health, philosophy, digital sociology, law, statistics, physics, computer science, cyberspace security and integrated circuit science.

My recommendation is to match the exact major and teaching language before approaching a supervisor. A department’s research interests alone do not establish that your preferred degree is available in English.

02 Who qualifies for Southeast University’s 2027 scholarship?

Non-Chinese citizens can apply with the relevant previous degree and language evidence. SEU’s published age wording is “not older than 35” for master’s applicants and “not older than 40” for PhD applicants.

  • Master’s applicants: Hold a bachelor’s degree.
  • PhD applicants: Hold a master’s degree.
  • Final-year applicants: May provide official expected-graduation evidence showing they will obtain the required qualification before the cutoff in the final dates section.
  • English-taught programmes: TOEFL 80+, IELTS 6.0+ or Duolingo 100+ is required where English is neither the native nor official language. The brochure does not advertise a general English-medium-of-instruction certificate waiver.
  • Chinese-taught programmes: At least HSK 4 with 200 points; medical, humanities and economic management majors require HSK 5 or above.

Language eligibility establishes whether you can follow the programme; your academic record and research preparation then support the university’s review. SEU is seeking applicants with strong academic backgrounds, professional competence and development potential, so use your proposal and references to demonstrate a credible direction.

03 How to prepare and submit the SEU CSC application

Prepare your documents for SEU first, then submit to CSC after SEU issues your pre-admission letter. The university requires a supervisor acceptance letter for certain colleges, but the brochure does not identify them. Resolve that college-specific requirement with [email protected] before relying on an application without one.

Our Chinese university professor-search directory includes Southeast University and can help you locate a relevant faculty profile. It is an outreach aid; the college’s requirement determines whether an acceptance letter is compulsory.

Prepare the required application file

  • Passport valid for more than one year; applicants already in China also provide their latest visa or residence-permit page.
  • Highest-degree certificate or permitted expected-graduation evidence, plus official academic transcripts.
  • Required language certificate and two recommendation letters.
  • A research proposal of at least 800 words, and supervisor acceptance where required.
  • Non-criminal-record certificate and physical-examination record, observing the brochure’s timing note below.
  • Programme-specific evidence, including a portfolio for Architecture programmes.

Documents must be in Chinese or English; other-language documents require notarized Chinese or English translations. I would prioritise the research proposal and references early: develop a focused question, explain your preparation and methods, and show how the project fits SEU. These are editorial suggestions for strengthening the required proposal.

Follow SEU’s submission sequence

  1. Submit the university application. Register in the SEU online application system, select the Chinese Government Scholarship programme and upload your complete file.
  2. Monitor review and payment instructions. The published sequence moves from initial review to application-fee payment, academic review and pre-admission. Pay when instructed within the assigned time; missing payment can end the application.
  3. Receive SEU’s pre-admission letter. Applicants passing the reviews receive this letter for scholarship recommendation. Read its CSC submission deadline immediately.
  4. Complete the CSC submission. Use the CSC online application system, choose Type B and enter Southeast University’s agency number 10286. Submit the pre-admission letter within its specified time or lose the recommendation opportunity. Our CSC application guide explains the wider system; follow SEU’s sequence for this call.
  5. Await CSC’s final decision. SEU emails admission documents after receiving that decision. Successful applicants use the admission notice and electronic JW201 form for the X1 student-visa application, then bring the required original academic and language documents for registration.

Check your passport details and email carefully before submission: SEU does not permit passport-document updates during the admission stage, and confirmed admission documents cannot be modified.

04 SEU scholarship questions before you commit

The remaining distinctions concern what your documents and application status actually mean.

Is supervisor acceptance the same as SEU pre-admission?

No. Supervisor acceptance supports your application where required, while SEU issues its scholarship pre-admission letter after the university reviews. The latter is the document you submit at the subsequent CSC stage.

Does “waiting for pre-admission” guarantee the scholarship?

No. SEU recommendation and CSC’s final decision are separate stages, and you must still submit the pre-admission letter to CSC on time. A university status update is not the final scholarship award.

Can you switch to an English-taught medical PhD?

The Medical School’s doctoral entries in this call are listed as Chinese-taught. An English test does not replace their Chinese-language requirement; choose a programme whose advertised language matches your evidence.

05 Southeast University CSC Scholarship 2027 application dates

The application period for Southeast University’s Chinese Government Scholarship High Level Postgraduate Program 2027 is 1 November 2026 to 28 February 2027. The last date to apply to SEU is 28 February 2027, according to the official 2027 notice and application brochure. No closing hour is specified; China Standard Time is UTC+8.

CSC submission: Meet the separate deadline printed in SEU’s pre-admission letter. Final-year applicants must provide official evidence that they will obtain the required qualification before 15 September 2027. Registration is expected from late August to early September, with the admission notice controlling the exact date.

Medical-document timing: The brochure specifies an examination within the six months preceding 15 November 2026. Because that reference date falls early in the application window, applicants arranging a later examination should obtain SEU’s clarification at [email protected] before paying for it.

Use the preparation period to settle your programme language and any supervisor requirement, then build the proposal around that choice. A coherent SEU application is your first step towards scholarship recommendation.
