Sports Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants can receive up to £5,000 in funding. Additional benefits include:
- Individual and small group strength and conditioning sessions.
- Access to professional medical services such as physiotherapy and sports massage.
- Professional coaching, mentoring, and lifestyle support.
- An athlete workshop program covering sports physiology, nutrition, psychology, screenings, injury prevention, and management, as well as lifestyle management.
- Sport science support and access to training facilities.
- Performance video analysis.
Sports Covered
Scholarships are specifically for athletes competing in one of the following Performance Clubs: American Football, Badminton, Basketball, Fencing, Football, Golf, Hockey, Lacrosse, Netball, Rowing, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, and Waterpolo.
Athletes whose sports are not listed can still apply for sports funding, extending the support Newcastle University offers to a broader range of sports disciplines.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for a sports scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Have achieved senior or age group representative honours at national and/or regional levels within the last 12 months.
- Be a member of the National Governing Body’s (NGB) performance squads, or an equivalent group.
- Commit to ongoing improvement in their sport and represent Newcastle University in British Universities Colleges Sport (BUCS) events where applicable.
Special Categories
North American Athlete Scholarships: Specifically designed for North American athletes applying for Master’s level study, this scholarship includes a tuition fee reduction and access to all the standard support services.
Disability Sports Scholarships: Available for students registered with a disability and currently representing the University or performing at regional/national levels in external clubs.
