Working in the UK: What You Need to Know

Your ability to work in the UK depends on the type of visa you hold and the level of your course:

1# Sub-degree Level (Foundation or Pre-sessional Courses):

    • Work up to 10 hours per week during term time.
    • Work full-time during official holiday periods.

2# Degree Level and Above (Undergraduate, Postgraduate, PhD):

    • Work up to 20 hours per week during term time.
    • Work full-time (in line with UK employment law) during holidays.

How to Verify Your Right to Work?

If you secure a job during your studies in UK, your employer must verify your right to work and here’s how you can provide proof:

1# Download a Work Entitlement Letter:

    • Log in to your E:vision account and select “Confirmation of Work Entitlement”.
    • Confirm your personal and course details.
    • The letter will be emailed to your University email address.
    • Share the letter with your employer for their right-to-work check.

2# Verify Your Academic Dates:

    • You can also download the official PGT dates with vacations document for your course start and end dates.

⚠️ Important: Do not exceed the maximum work hours allowed during term time. Violating these conditions can seriously affect your immigration status.


Work Opportunities After Graduation in UK

Once you complete your studies at YSJU, you can continue working in the UK under the following visa routes:

1# UK Graduate Visa:

    • Stay and work in the UK for at least 2 years after completing your undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
    • Your course must be fully completed, and results ratified by the School Assessment Board.
    • The Visa and Compliance team will notify UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), and you’ll receive an email when you can apply.
    • You must apply before your current Student Visa expires.

After Graduation in UK: Next Steps

From February 17, 2025, YSJU and other universities in UK will automatically provide all eligible graduates with a Course Completion Letter. This confirms you have met all academic requirements and can apply for a Skilled Worker or Graduate Visa.

  • To Prove Full-Time Work Eligibility: Download the work entitlement letter from E.Vision.
  • Graduate Visa: Apply only after receiving your full award and ratified results. YSJU’s Visa and Compliance team will notify the UKVI on your behalf.
