Key Information About Swansea International Postgrad Scholarship

The SUIPRES is a highly competitive scholarship scheme designed for overseas PhD and Professional Doctorate applicants who are eligible for international tuition fees and demonstrate exceptional academic achievement.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the SUIPRES, applicants must:

  1. Program Application: Apply for an eligible PhD or Professional Doctorate program at Swansea University. Click here for the full list of eligible courses.
  2. Academic Achievement: Achieve or expect to achieve a 1st class or 2:1 UK undergraduate degree (or equivalent international qualification), and/or a Distinction in a UK master’s degree (or international equivalent).
  3. International Status: Be classified as an international student and eligible to pay the international rate of Swansea University tuition fees.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

  • Current PhD/Professional Doctorate students (including returning or transfer students) are not eligible.
  • The scheme is not available for master’s level courses.
  • Candidates fully sponsored by a third party are not entitled to receive a SUIPRES scholarship.

Funding

The SUIPRES Scholarship covers the difference between the International and Home tuition fee rates for the duration of the PhD/Professional Doctorate program.

  • Tuition Fee Coverage: Successful candidates will be charged fees aligned to the UK rate per year, currently £4,786 for 2024/25, increasing annually in line with UKRI regulations (typically 3% per year).
  • Scholarship Application: The scholarship value will be deducted from your tuition fees.

Important: Applicants must ensure they have sufficient funds to cover the remaining fees and living costs for the entire period of registration.
