This fellowship is designed for individuals who want their work to influence policy, public discourse, and social progress in the region. For emerging and mid-career professionals working on accountability, governance, and social transformation, this is a strategic opportunity to collaborate with a respected global policy institute while continuing professional work from anywhere.

What This Fellowship Is All About?

The TIMEP Nonresident Fellowship is a 12-month program that brings together a select cohort of advocates, researchers, journalists, and legal professionals who are committed to advancing transparent, accountable, and just societies across the Middle East and North Africa.

The program focuses on supporting professionals whose work has direct relevance to policy, governance, civil society, and public discourse. Fellows propose and lead their own mandate based on a specific topic and geographic focus aligned with TIMEP’s mission. Through this, they contribute analysis, programming, and thought leadership that reflects on-the-ground realities and policy needs.

The 2026–2027 cohort will include up to 12 fellows with strong ties to the MENA region and a clear commitment to creating meaningful impact through research, advocacy, and policy engagement.

What the Fellowship Is Offering?

Selected fellows will gain access to a comprehensive platform designed to amplify their work and expand their professional influence.

Key benefits include:

  • A stipend commensurate with experience
  • A 12-month fellowship beginning in mid-May 2026
  • Flexible nonresident format allowing fellows to work remotely
  • Opportunity to produce policy-relevant analysis and programming
  • Personalized skills-building and professional development support
  • Access to TIMEP’s global network of policymakers, organizations, and advocates
  • Collaboration with a diverse cohort of regional experts
  • Opportunities to shape public discourse through media, policy engagement, and events

The fellowship is structured to complement existing professional commitments. Fellows typically contribute around 15–20 hours per month, making it ideal for working professionals seeking international policy exposure without leaving current roles.

Fellowship Focus and Mandate

Applicants must propose an original fellowship mandate consisting of:

  • A clearly defined topic
  • A geographic focus

Strong proposals often align with TIMEP’s priority countries: Egypt, Tunisia, Sudan, Syria, and Lebanon, or intersect with major thematic areas such as governance and politics, security, economy and reconstruction, law and accountability, social movements, migration, or misinformation.

The fellowship is not an academic research program but rather a policy and advocacy-focused initiative aimed at producing practical, solutions-oriented outputs.

Who This Opportunity Is For?

This fellowship targets young and mid-career professionals who are actively engaged in policy, advocacy, media, law, or civil society work related to the MENA region.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • At least five years of relevant professional or academic experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Strong proficiency in written and spoken English and Arabic
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice, accountability, and policy reform
  • Active connections to civil society, grassroots organizations, or regional experts
  • Preferably based in or closely connected to the Middle East and North Africa region

Individuals with strong local perspectives and on-the-ground engagement will be particularly competitive.
