Taipei Medical University Scholarships 2027 for International Master’s and PhD Applicants

Taipei Medical University’s Spring 2027 graduate intake gives international students a route into Master’s and PhD study in Taiwan with scholarship opportunities—but there is one detail applicants should understand before they build their entire plan around funding.

Being admitted to TMU does not automatically mean receiving the scholarship package you expect.

That distinction matters far beyond the current application window. For students comparing Taiwan with funded graduate opportunities in China, Japan, South Korea or elsewhere in East Asia, TMU is best approached as an admission-plus-funding competition, rather than as a scholarship application with guaranteed admission attached.

Does Getting Into TMU Mean I Automatically Get Funding?

This is where applicants need to read the process carefully.

TMU is recruiting international students for graduate admission while scholarship opportunities operate alongside that process. Applicants should therefore avoid planning their finances on the assumption that an admission offer automatically equals a particular scholarship award.

Practically, this means your application needs to work on two levels: it must convince the university that you belong in the academic program, while your financial planning should remain realistic until your eventual admission and scholarship package is confirmed.

That separation is common across competitive graduate funding systems in Taiwan and elsewhere in East Asia. Students applying simultaneously to several funded programs should compare the actual award eventually offered, rather than simply comparing universities advertised as having scholarships.

Who Fits Taipei’s Medical Graduate Track?

Master’s applicants need a bachelor’s degree, while PhD applicants need a master’s qualification. Students completing those degrees may also be eligible where they satisfy TMU’s stated graduation requirements.

International-student status must comply with Taiwan Ministry of Education regulations. Applicants with present or previous Republic of China nationality, or certain connections to Hong Kong, Macao or Mainland China, need to examine those rules particularly carefully.

Program fit matters just as much. Applying simply because TMU is a medical university is not enough; applicants should check the specific academic requirements of each chosen graduate program before submitting.

Do I Really Need IELTS for a Taiwan Scholarship?

Not every applicant does. TMU requires English proficiency of at least CEFR B1 for Master’s applicants and CEFR B2 for PhD applicants, although individual programs can impose their own standards.

Recognized options include TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo and PTE Academic. A waiver may be possible where an applicant’s previous degree was taught in English, the applicant previously majored in English, or the applicant comes from an approved country where English is an official language.

For applicants relying on an English-medium degree, the weak point is often documentation. Do not merely state that your university taught in English; provide the required proof of language of instruction or graduation evidence.

Why Is TMU Asking Me to Show USD 4,000?

The bank statement causes unnecessary panic because TMU scholarship applicants sometimes read it as evidence that TMU expects them to self-finance the whole degree.

It does not.

At the application stage, applicants must provide a financial statement issued within the previous three months showing at least USD 4,000, or USD 5,000 for the INTENSE program. If the account uses another currency, applicants should state the exchange rate and converted value.

Later financial-document requirements can depend on the scholarship package stated in the admission notice.

Why Applications Get Rejected—or Become Unnecessarily Risky

Several avoidable problems can weaken an otherwise credible application:

1. choosing programs without demonstrating a convincing academic fit;
2. uploading financial evidence that is old, unclear or below the required amount;
3. assuming an English waiver without providing acceptable supporting documentation;
4. overlooking program-specific requirements;
5. waiting until the final hours to upload documents or make the non-refundable payment.

The TWD 2,000 or USD 80 application fee also deserves attention. General Track applicants may select up to two programs for that single fee, which makes a carefully chosen second program useful rather than merely decorative.

TMU’s Admission System Is Direct

TMU states that it handles international-student recruitment itself and does not commission outside institutions, companies, groups or individuals to manage recruitment matters, apart from publicity, promotion and assistance with necessary Taiwan procedures.

Applicants should therefore create their own account in the TMU university admission system, upload their documents, pay the application fee and monitor their status directly.

Shortlisted candidates are scheduled for online interviews between September 29 and October 8, 2026. Results are expected in November, admitted applicants must accept their offers by November 20, authenticated documents are due December 24, and successful students are expected in Taipei in February 2027.

The Spring 2027 TMU Taiwan scholarship application deadline is August 31, 2026 at 5:00 PM Taiwan time.
