But before you apply from anywhere in the world, one question matters: is funding available for your particular programme, and will it cover enough to make studying in Beijing affordable?
Undergraduates can explore the Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A) through the authority responsible for their country, or Tsinghua’s International Undergraduate Freshmen Scholarship, which offers full, half or partial tuition support for the first year. Master’s and PhD applicants may pursue Chinese Government Scholarship routes or compete for Beijing Government and Tsinghua tuition awards. A full graduate Chinese Government Scholarship normally includes tuition, housing support, a stipend and medical insurance; tuition awards cover less.

Which subjects and degrees are available?
Scholarships fund admission to specific programmes, and availability varies by subject. These examples show the range; a listed field does not guarantee an English-taught place or a scholarship.

Budget for the entire degree: freshman funding does not promise later-year awards, and graduate CGS holders face annual reviews. A costly master’s may leave a tuition gap even with CGS Type A; some high-fee programmes have few or no Type B nominations. Graduate CGS cannot be combined with tuition scholarships.
Would you qualify for Tsinghua Scholarship based Admission?
Start with nationality and education. Applicants need qualifying foreign nationality, with additional documentation for some family or former-citizenship situations. Bachelor’s applicants need a full-time, in-person high-school qualification; master’s applicants generally need a bachelor’s; PhD applicants usually need a master’s unless their department accepts direct entry. Undergraduates younger than 18 on 1 September 2027 must supply guardian documents. The 2027 graduate admission guide gives no university-wide numerical age limit, but CGS Type B has its own age restriction: check its 2027 terms before assuming eligibility.
Then check the teaching language. English-taught bachelor’s courses require no HSK, but non-native English speakers must submit an accepted English test such as TOEFL or IELTS. Chinese-English undergraduate courses require HSK Level 5 with scores above 60 in listening, reading and writing; qualifying Chinese-speaking or Chinese-medium-school applicants can seek a waiver. Graduate test scores and possible waivers are set by the department; an admission waiver does not automatically satisfy scholarship language rules.
How do you apply?
- Choose your programme and check its price. Explore Tsinghua’s undergraduate divisions or 2027 graduate catalogue, then compare the undergraduate tuition schedule if relevant. Graduate programme “Remarks of Application” specify language, extra rules and deadlines. You may name two graduate preferences, but the second opens only if the first is unsuccessful.
- Prepare evidence. Check the 2027 bachelor’s eligibility rules if applicable. Both routes require nationality documents, academic records, applicable language evidence and recommendations. Bachelor’s applicants also prepare a personal statement, financial sponsor details and a self-introduction video; arts or architecture applicants need a portfolio. Graduate applicants submit degree documents and, for PhD study, a research plan. Use required certified translations and proper scans.
- Submit admission and pay. Use the undergraduate application portal or graduate application portal. Pay the RMB 800 fee when submitting; a prospective scholarship does not pay this charge.
- Apply for funding. The freshman scholarship instructions explain how to request Tsinghua’s tuition award in the admission system and seek CGS Type A through the responsible embassy or consulate, naming Tsinghua first. For graduate Type A, tell the university how you are applying. For Type B, seek departmental nomination after pre-admission and complete the CSC form only when instructed. - Track deadlines and respond. Consult the undergraduate application calendar or 2027 graduate admissions reminder. Tsinghua may invite shortlisted applicants to further assessment or interview. Check the funding in your admission package before committing to costs; then follow its visa and registration instructions.
What dates matter for 2027?
For undergraduate admission at Tsinghua, round #1 runs from 08:00 on 30 September to 17:00 on 20 November 2026; round #2 runs from 08:00 on 21 November 2026 to 17:00 on 28 February 2027, Beijing time. Design and fine arts accept applicants only in round one; the Tsinghua–Chinese University of Hong Kong economics dual degree accepts them only in round two. Undergraduate CGS Type A dates depend on the embassy or consulate; Tsinghua says they usually fall between November 2026 and April 2027.
Graduate admission closes on the date in your programme’s catalogue entry. For CGS evaluation, Tsinghua strongly recommends submitting the university application by mid-December 2026. That is an early target, not a university-wide final deadline; any Type B nomination and CSC submission dates come from the department, while Type A dates come from your outside authority.
