About the Fellowship

The TWAS-SN Bose Postgraduate Fellowship Programme is jointly offered by TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences) and the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata, India. It supports talented students from developing nations in the Global South to pursue PhD-level research in physical sciences.

You can opt for either:

  • SANDWICH mode (registered for PhD in your home country)
  • FULL-TIME mode (register for PhD at SN Bose Centre in India)

This is a prestigious 5-year funded research opportunity with world-class academic mentorship and access to cutting-edge scientific facilities.


TWAS-BOSE Fellowship Benefits

  • Monthly Stipend (non-convertible into foreign currency) to cover living costs and food
  • Free on-campus accommodation
  • Partial medical reimbursement as per Indian Government’s CGHS norms

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be under 35 years of age by 31 December 2025
  • Be a national of a developing country (excluding India)
  • Hold an MSc or equivalent in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Mathematics
  • Not hold any permanent/temporary Indian or developed country visa
  • Be proficient in English
  • Commit to returning to your home country after the fellowship
  • Not undertake any other paid assignment during the fellowship
  • Obtain a preliminary acceptance letter from SN Bose Centre by writing to the Dean (Academic Programme): [email protected].
