UK Launches ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ Campaign in March 2025 for Indian Citizens

The UK Government has launched an ambitious awareness campaign, ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’, aimed at protecting Indian citizens—especially in Punjab—from the dangers of visa fraud and irregular migration. The campaign seeks to safeguard individuals from financial ruin, emotional distress, and even physical harm resulting from fraudulent visa schemes.

Fighting Back Against Visa Fraud

Unveiled today at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar, the campaign is a direct response to growing concerns over fraudulent agents exploiting hopeful migrants with false promises of UK jobs, exemptions from English-language tests (IELTS), and excessive fees. Many victims end up in crushing debt, legal trouble, or even banned from entering the UK for a decade.

The campaign was launched in the presence of LPU Chancellor and Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, along with British Deputy High Commissioners Christina Scott (New Delhi) and Caroline Rowett (Chandigarh).

“With this campaign, we want to ensure that Indian citizens looking to travel, study, or work in the UK do so through safe, legal, and informed channels,” said Christina Scott, British Deputy High Commissioner to India.

“Too many young people’s dreams are being exploited by fraudsters. The opportunity to visit, study, and work in the UK has never been greater, and we want to ensure these dreams come true legally and safely.

Punjab in the Spotlight

Given the high volume of visa applicants from Punjab, the campaign will conduct outreach programs in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Chandigarh to educate people about fraudulent practices. With Punjab’s deep historical ties to the UK, this initiative seeks to protect ambitious individuals from being misled by unscrupulous agents promising shortcuts to the UK.

“We urge people to spread the ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ message to their families, friends, and communities,” said Caroline Rowett, British Deputy High Commissioner to Chandigarh. “Punjab’s hardworking people have made significant contributions globally, and we want their UK journeys to be safe and legal.

UK & India’s Joint Effort to Curb Irregular Migration

Under the UK-India Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement, both countries are ramping up their fight against irregular migration. With Indian nationals receiving almost a quarter of all UK visas worldwide, the UK is expected to issue around 1 million visas this year.

February also marked the third anniversary of the UK-India Young Professionals Scheme, which has expanded internship and cultural exchange opportunities for Indian nationals in the UK.
