Ulster University Postgraduate Certificate 2026 in Higher Education Practice

Ulster University is offering a unique chance for educators around the world to sharpen their teaching skills through the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice (PG Cert HE Practice). This internationally recognized program opens new doors for professionals passionate about transforming student learning experiences in higher education.

What’s This Program About?

The PG Cert HE Practice is a professional learning program designed for university educators who are currently involved in teaching or supporting learning. Accredited by Advance HE, the certificate helps participants improve their teaching techniques through critical reflection, evidence-based strategies, and work-integrated practice. Successful graduates gain Fellowship status (FHEA), a respected credential in the higher education sector worldwide.

Those not eligible for the full program can still apply for Module 1 (PHE705) as a standalone course and earn Associate Fellowship (AFHEA).


What Does It Offer?

  • Internationally recognized Fellowship (FHEA or AFHEA)
  • Three in-person, full-day modules over 18 months (September 2025–January 2027)
  • Expert-led sessions every Wednesday during semesters
  • Practical experience by applying theory directly in your own teaching environment
  • Guidance and mentorship from experienced educators and Subject Advisors.

Who Can Apply?

This opportunity is open to Ulster University staff (including academic and support staff) who:

  • Have an active teaching/supporting learning role in higher education
  • Can dedicate at least 25 hours of practical teaching or support work per module
  • Have a contract extending to at least February 2026 for Module 1, or February 2027 for the full program.

If you don’t meet the criteria, Ulster also offers a “First Steps to Teaching” course separately.


Course Structure

  1. PHE705 – Learning & Teaching in Higher Education (Sep–Dec 2025)
    Learn how to create effective and inclusive learning experiences.

  2. PHE707 – Using Evidence to Support Student Success (Jan–May 2026)
    Develop ways to use evidence and feedback to improve teaching impact.

  3. PHE708 – Designing A Contemporary Curriculum (Sep–Dec 2026)
    Design innovative and inclusive curricula aligned with institutional goals.

Application Opening Date

The application window for the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice (2025–26 intake is expected to open in early July 2025 for a September 2025 start.
