University of Manitoba’s Fall 2027 Entrance Scholarships Seeking Applications
The University of Manitoba’s Fall 2027 International Excellence Entrance Scholarship is open, with one C$25,000 award and two C$10,000 awards for international high school applicants. But waiting until March to apply would mean missing these awards: both your admission application and scholarship submission are due on 1 December 2026.
So, which route fits you? A school leaver can target entrance awards, a returning undergraduate can compete through university grades, and a master’s or PhD applicant needs to discuss funding with their department. This guide helps you choose the right route, prepare the right evidence and avoid treating admission as a promise of funding.
Choose your next step:
Which Manitoba scholarship fits your Study Level?
Your study level and applicant status determine the funding route; there is no single Manitoba scholarship application covering everyone. Use this comparison before preparing documents. All amounts below are in Canadian dollars.
| Funding route | Who it suits | Value and action |
|---|---|---|
| International Excellence Entrance Scholarship | International students applying directly from high school for September 2027, with leadership and community involvement | One C$25,000 award and two C$10,000 awards; separate scholarship application plus paid admission application by 1 December 2026. |
| International Undergraduate Student Entrance Scholarship | Eligible international high school graduates with at least an 85% average in five approved senior courses | Automatic consideration through admission by March 1; values set annually. Published C$1,000–C$3,000 tiers are a 2024–2025 example, not confirmed 2027 amounts. |
| International Undergraduate Student Scholarship | Continuing international students with at least 24 completed credits and a minimum 3.5 sessional GPA | Recipients ranked by GPA; value and availability depend on funds. Continue with at least 24 credits in the next Fall/Winter session. |
| University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) | Full-time master’s and PhD students of any citizenship in programmes eligible for Tri-Agency funding | Currently C$20,000/year for master’s and C$25,000/year for PhD; departmental selection and recommendation required. |
| General bursary programme | Eligible students demonstrating financial need | Variable support through Aurora; international students in their first year of post-secondary study in Canada are ineligible. |
Planning postgraduate study? UMGF requires at least a 3.0 admission GPA, although departments may set a higher threshold. Master’s awards can last 12 or 24 months; doctoral awards can last up to 48 months, subject to remaining eligibility. Ask your department for its deadline and nomination process. A single other scholarship worth at least the annual UMGF value prevents concurrent holding.
Will these awards pay for everything? Do not assume so. Compare your actual award offer with tuition, housing, food, insurance and travel. A fixed scholarship amount does not establish a separate tuition waiver or family allowance.
Already studying at Manitoba? Meeting the continuing undergraduate scholarship’s minimum GPA makes you eligible for ranking, rather than guaranteeing selection. New international arrivals should arrange first-year funds without relying on the general bursary programme.
Can you compete for the C$25,000 entrance award?
You need at least a 90% admission average across five approved senior high school courses, alongside strong leadership and sustained community involvement, to compete for the C$25,000 award. Approved subjects include mathematics, sciences, computer science, languages, geography, history, music and visual arts.
Below 90%? The two C$10,000 awards require the minimum admission requirements for University 1 or another direct entry programme, together with leadership and meaningful community involvement. You still need the academic prerequisites for your chosen programme.
Make your leadership evidence concrete: explain what you organized, whom it helped, how long you participated and what changed. These are practical writing suggestions, not extra eligibility conditions.
The scholarship also needs an official interim senior-level high school transcript and one recommendation. The dedicated award page specifies a current teacher or principal; arrange this early and ensure the recommendation arrives by the deadline. Recipients must satisfy the award’s full-time enrolment conditions.
Do you need IELTS for Manitoba admission?
IELTS is one accepted option; you can use another approved test or qualify for a documented waiver or exemption. A scholarship does not automatically remove the admission language requirement.
For most undergraduate programmes, IELTS Academic requires 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each component. Other current options include PTE at 58, CAEL at 60, and Duolingo at 120 overall with minimum component scores of 105. Law and the International Dentist Degree Program have separate rules.
Undergraduate test results must remain valid at the start of your admission term and expire after two years. If seeking a waiver, provide evidence meeting the university’s published criteria; do not assume an English-medium letter alone is sufficient.
Graduate admission lists IELTS Academic at 6.5 overall as a general minimum, but programmes may require more. The graduate exemption route includes a high school diploma or university degree from Canada or a country on the university’s exemption list. Check your programme before booking a test.
How do you apply without missing funding?
Submit the correct admission application, then complete any separate scholarship or departmental funding steps. Follow this sequence:
- Choose your programme and intake. Use the official undergraduate application guide to check country-specific qualifications, prerequisites, English rules and programme deadlines. Select Fall 2027 if targeting the entrance awards described here.
- Prepare and pay for admission. Gather your transcripts, required translations and English evidence or waiver documentation. Submit through UM’s application portal and pay the non-refundable fee: C$130 for international applicants or C$100 for domestic applicants. Payment must arrive by the relevant deadline.
- Apply separately for International Excellence. Open the official International Excellence application page and follow its scholarship application link. Complete both applications, provide the interim transcript and ensure your recommender submits by 1 December 2026.
- For master’s or PhD study, use the graduate route. Follow the official graduate application instructions. Check whether your programme requires a supervisor before applying. Upload the requested documents; unofficial transcripts are accepted for initial assessment. Referees submit recommendations directly through the system. Separately ask your department about UMGF consideration and its funding deadline.
- Check your portal until the file is complete. Track missing documents, recommendation submissions and decisions. If your programme requests a CV, our Canadian CV formatting guide offers presentation tips; follow the programme’s academic CV instructions where they differ. Accept any offer by the date in your letter and meet its remaining conditions.
Which deadlines should you put in your calendar?
Start with 1 December 2026 if you want International Excellence funding for September 2027. That date covers the scholarship application, interim transcript, recommendation and submission/payment of your direct entry admission application. Award decisions are scheduled for mid-March 2027.
Applying early also gives eligible Fall 2027 direct entry applicants automatic entry into the C$5,000 tuition-prize draw: five prizes are allocated to international students and five to domestic students. Submit and pay by 1 December 2026. This is a random draw, and the prize is tuition credit rather than cash.
For general entrance-scholarship consideration, plan to submit and pay by 1 March 2027 under UM’s published March 1 rule. This is a scholarship consideration date, not a universal deadline for every programme, transcript or English result. Check your chosen programme’s Fall 2027 document schedule separately.
