The University of Otago Coursework Master’s Scholarship 2025 offers high-achieving students an opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in a coursework-based program at the University of Otago, New Zealand. Established by the University Council in 2010, this scholarship supports both domestic and international students intending to enroll in eligible coursework master’s programs.

Financial Benefits

The scholarship provides a total of NZD 10,000, allocated as follows:

  • A rebate on tuition fees in the first instance.
  • Any remaining balance is paid as a monthly stipend distributed evenly throughout the tenure of the scholarship.
  • If a recipient withdraws from the coursework master’s study, all payments will cease immediately, and no refunds will be issued.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications for the University of Otago Coursework Master’s Scholarship are open to:

  • Domestic and international students who plan to enroll full-time in the first year of a coursework master’s degree that does not include a thesis option.
  • Students who opt for a research report or dissertation option in a master’s program that offers both thesis and coursework options.
  • Applicants who have previously completed a coursework master’s degree at the University of Otago are generally not eligible.

Application and Selection Process

To apply, students must submit an application on the prescribed form:

  • Prospective students applying for admission to their chosen degree must include the scholarship application as part of their admission process.
  • Students choosing a research report or dissertation option after initial study must submit their scholarship application directly to the University of Otago Doctoral and Scholarships Office within one month of starting the dissertation or research report component.

The University of Otago Scholarships Committee evaluates applications based on:

  • The applicant’s academic record.
  • The recommendation and ranking provided by the relevant Head of Department or nominee.
