UQ Firebirds Scholarship 2025

Are you passionate about netball and planning to start your undergraduate studies at the University of Queensland (UQ)? The UQ Firebirds Scholarship is a fantastic opportunity for students who have shown a commitment to netball, whether through playing, coaching, or volunteering.

Established in 2019, this scholarship is supported by Queensland Firebirds and UQ Marketing and Communications to encourage and assist students with a passion for netball in their academic journey.

Scholarship Benefits

The UQ Firebirds Scholarship offers a one-time payment of $5,000 to up to four deserving students each year. This financial support can help cover tuition fees, living expenses, or other educational costs, allowing recipients to focus more on their studies and less on financial stress.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the UQ Firebirds Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Year 12 Completion: You must have completed Year 12 in the year prior to the scholarship award.
  • Commencing Student: You must intend to enrol as a new student in any undergraduate coursework program at UQ in the year of the award.
  • Netball Involvement: You need to demonstrate active participation in netball, either by playing for a school or club or through contributions to the sport via coaching or volunteering within the past two years.

Selection Process

The selection process for the UQ Firebirds Scholarship is highly competitive. A selection committee, chaired by a representative from the UQ Community Partnerships and Sponsorships steering committee, along with representatives from Netball Queensland and other UQ staff members, will assess applicants based on the following criteria:

  1. Interest in Chosen Study Program: Your passion and commitment to your chosen field of study as reflected in your application.
  2. Netball Community Commitment: Your dedication and contribution to the netball community.
  3. Financial Need: Demonstrated financial hardship will be considered.

Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Are regional or remote students.
  • Are the first in their family to attend university.

Application Process and Deadline

Applications for the UQ Firebirds Scholarship will be closed on 24 November 2024. To apply, you will need to use the online application portal available on the UQ Scholarships website https://scholarships.uq.edu.au/scholarship/uq-firebirds-scholarship. After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email. Successful applicants will be notified by UQ.
