Vanderbilt University has announced a limited submission opportunity for the 2026 Warren Alpert Distinguished Scholars Fellowship Award. Up to two candidates may be nominated by Vanderbilt University (VU) for this highly competitive fellowship program.


About the Fellowship

The Warren Alpert Distinguished Scholars Fellowship Award is designed to support outstanding early-career researchers in translational immunology (non-cancer). This fellowship is not just another postdoc award—it’s a launchpad to faculty independence. The award supports scientists with a strong track record and groundbreaking ideas poised to make a significant impact on human health through immunological research.

Fellowship Benefits

  • Funding Amount: $200,000 annually (for two years)
  • Coverage: Salary, lab costs, and related research expenses
  • Overhead: Up to 15% of direct costs allowed
  • Effort Required: At least 75% of full-time effort on the proposed research
  • Award Transfer: Funding may be transferred to support a beginning faculty position under certain conditions

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for nomination:

  • You must hold an M.D. and/or Ph.D.
  • Be in a postdoctoral or instructor position
  • Have completed 3–6 years of postdoctoral fellowship work by July 1, 2026
  • Be conducting research in translational immunology (non-cancer)
  • Be committed to 75% research effort
  • Applicants on a visa may be nominated if visa conditions permit award completion in the U.S.

Interested Vanderbilt researchers must prepare the following documents for internal review:

  • A 2-page research plan (including summary budget)
  • A 0.5-page background summary
  • A letter of support from the department chair or center director
  • A 5-page NIH biosketch or abbreviated CV
