World Bank Group 2026 Africa Fellowship Inviting Applications
The Africa region of the World Bank Group (WBG) has officially launched the application cycle for the 2026 WBG Africa Fellowship Program, inviting Ph.D. candidates and recent Ph.D. graduates from Sub-Saharan Africa to apply. This world bank African fellowship aims to strengthen the next generation of African leaders in research, policy, and development, with a special encouragement for women applicants.
Fellowship Package
Selected fellows will spend six (06) months (January–June 2026) at the World Bank Group headquarters in Washington, D.C. or at a country office. They will be hired as short-term consultants and receive:
- Consultant fees for the six-month assignment.
- Round-trip economy-class airfare to Washington, D.C. or to the relevant WBG country office.
- Full access to WBG resources and mentorship during the fellowship period.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be nationals of Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Be a recent Ph.D. graduate (within the last three years) or currently in the final year of a Ph.D. program.
- Be 32 years old or younger by January 2026.
- Have an excellent command of English (written and spoken).
- Demonstrate strong quantitative and analytical skills.
Selection Process
The fellowship follows a two-phase selection process:
- Shortlisting Phase – A pool of strong candidates is shortlisted based on specialization and interest.
- Final Selection – Fellows are chosen in consultation with WBG units. Selected candidates are then hired as short-term consultants for the January–June 2026 term.
Application Timeline
The application process for the WBG Africa Fellowship Program 2026 session will close on August 25, 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be notified following the evaluation, and the fellowship will officially run from January to June 2026.
