Google PhD Fellowships are awarded to outstanding graduate students conducting exceptional research in computer science and related fields. This program is open to candidates from Africa, Australia, Canada, East Asia, Europe, India, Latin America, the Middle East, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and the United States.
The Perks – Fellowship Benefits
This prestigious fellowship varies by region but includes generous financial support and direct mentorship from Google’s research team. Here’s what you get:
- Africa: Up to 3 years, $12,000 per year, and a Google Research Mentor
- Australia & New Zealand: 1-year fellowship, AUD $20,000
- Canada & the U.S.: Up to 2 years, $85,000 per year ($70K for tuition & fees, $15K stipend)
- East Asia: 1-year fellowship, $10,000
- Europe & the Middle East: Up to 2 years, covering tuition, salary, health care, travel, and equipment
- India: Early-stage PhD students receive up to 4 years, $50,000; late-stage PhD students receive $10,000
- Latin America: Up to 2 years, $15,000 per year
- Southeast Asia: Up to 3 years, $10,000 per year.
Do You Qualify? – Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, you must be a full-time PhD student for the duration of the fellowship. Google employees and their immediate family members cannot apply. Students who have already received similar industry-sponsored awards (except government or non-profit funding) are also ineligible.
- Africa, India, Latin America, Southeast Asia: Open to incoming or early-stage PhD students.
- Australia & New Zealand: Open to PhD students in their first or second year.
- Canada & the U.S.: Open to PhD students who have completed graduate coursework.
- East Asia: Open to students who have completed most graduate coursework.
- Europe & the Middle East: Open to students at any PhD stage.
