Internship Overview: A Gateway to EU-Japan Relations
The EU-Japan Centre offers immersive internship opportunities at both its Tokyo and Brussels offices. For 2026 and onward, placements are primarily available at the Brussels office, as the 2025 quota is already filled. These internships focus on bridging economic, technological, and cultural ties between Japan and the European Union through research and practical assignments.
This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate and master’s students to contribute to international cooperation efforts while enhancing their academic portfolio with real-world experience in an intergovernmental setting.
Funding & Benefits
While this internship is unpaid, interns receive:
- A daily stipend of €10 to cover basic expenses.
- The flexibility to work remotely or attend the Brussels office in person (if available locally).

Who Can Apply?
This internship is open to students who:
- Are currently enrolled in a university located in the European Union.
- Are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
- Need to complete a compulsory or voluntary internship (for ECTS credits or through a university contract).
- Can commit to a maximum duration of 4 months.
- Have C1-level English proficiency.
- Have Japanese language proficiency of at least JLPT N3 (N2 preferred).
- Are passionate about Japanese industry, culture, and EU-Japan economic relations.
What Will You Do?
Interns will:
- Conduct research on Japan’s industrial sectors and culture.
- Contribute to updating the EU-Japan Centre’s website and publications.
- Participate in support tasks aligned with the intern’s individual skills and interests.
