ETH Zurich, one of the world’s most Switzerland’s universities in science and technology, is once again inviting applications for its Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) for the 2026 academic year. This highly competitive Swiss fully funded scholarship supports exceptional students pursuing a Master’s degree at ETH Zurich by covering tuition fees, living expenses, mentorship, and career development opportunities through the ETH Foundation network.


About the ESOP Scholarship

The Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) is designed for top-performing students worldwide who wish to study at ETH Zurich. It provides comprehensive financial and academic support, ensuring that talented individuals can focus entirely on their studies and research without financial constraints. ESOP combines a scholarship, mentorship, and exclusive networking opportunities to empower future leaders in science, engineering, and technology.

Swiss 2026 Scholarship Funding Plan

The ESOP Scholarship 2026 covers both living and study expenses throughout the regular duration of a Master’s program (three to four semesters). Each recipient will receive:

  • CHF 12,000 per semester to cover living costs and study-related expenses
  • Full tuition fee waiver for the entire program duration
  • Exclusive mentorship from ETH Zurich faculty and industry experts
  • Access to ETH Foundation’s professional network, connecting scholars with global leaders, researchers, and potential employers

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the ETH Zurich ESOP Scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  1. Academic Excellence:
    Applicants must rank among the top 10% of their Bachelor’s degree program (Grade A or equivalent).

  2. Degree Status:
    Applicants already enrolled in a Master’s program at ETH Zurich or holding a Master’s degree are not eligible.

  3. Contact Availability:
    Applicants must be reachable at the phone number provided in their CV, as shortlisted candidates may be invited to an interview (phone or video conference) in February 2026.

  4. Master’s Thesis Pre-Proposal:
    Applicants must upload a self-developed pre-proposal for their Master’s thesis following ETH Zurich’s official guidelines. The document must follow proper scientific citation standards.

  5. References:
    If your Master’s program does not require references, you must name two academic referees (professors) in your application. These professors will be contacted directly via email to upload reference letters on your behalf.


Which Documents Needed to Apply for ETH Zurich 2026 Scholarship?

In addition to the standard Master’s admission documents, ETH Zurich ESOP fully funded scholarship applicants must provide the following:

All documents must be uploaded within the application portal before the deadline. Hard copies are not required at this stage.


Selection and Evaluation Process

Applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committees of each Master’s program at ETH Zurich, which assess academic merit, research potential, and motivation. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for interviews in February 2026. The final selection and scholarship awards are made by the Rector of ETH Zurich based on committee recommendations and available funding.

For the 2025/26 academic year, approximately 60 scholarships will be awarded under the ESOP scheme. The exact number may vary depending on funding availability.

Results Notification:
Successful applicants of Switzerland’s ETH Zurich scholarship will be notified by the end of March 2026.
