This scholarship program is designed for students from over 30 eligible partner countries, giving Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD applicants a chance to reduce the financial pressure of studying abroad while joining one of Europe’s most affordable and academically growing destinations.

With tuition fees in Latvia ranging between €2,800 and €15,000 per year, this scholarship can become a major support system for students aiming for high-quality education in English or Latvian.

Scholarship Benefits and Monthly Stipend Support

The Latvian State Scholarship is a government-funded award that provides selected students with monthly financial assistance during their academic stay in Latvia.

Winning this scholarship means you can study in a European university while receiving a stable stipend each month, helping you manage essential expenses and focus fully on your academic goals.

Monthly Scholarship Amounts

  • €500 per month for Bachelor’s students
  • €600 per month for Master’s students
  • €700 per month for PhD students

Award Duration

  • Up to 10 months for Bachelor’s and Master’s applicants
  • Up to 11 months for PhD applicants

While the scholarship provides meaningful support, applicants should note that it does not fully cover tuition, living costs, travel, or insurance expenses, so personal funding may still be required.

Eligibility Requirements

Latvia’s scholarship program is open to qualified international students who meet academic and institutional requirements.

To apply successfully, here is what you must qualify for:

  • Applicants must be citizens of one of the eligible partner countries
  • Bachelor’s applicants must have completed at least one academic year at a higher education institution
  • Master’s and PhD applicants may apply from any previous university
  • Applicants must select a Latvian study programme before applying
  • A confirmation letter from the chosen Latvian higher education institution is mandatory
  • Applicants can submit only one application per open call
  • Scholarship holders cannot receive this scholarship alongside other grants

The scholarship may be awarded for a maximum of two terms during a student’s overall study period.
