Choreomundus Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2027: 17 Awards for Dance and Heritage Studies

ERASMUS MUNDUS · 2027 ENTRY

The Choreomundus Erasmus Mundus Master in Dance and Movement as Practical Knowledge and Heritage has announced its 2027 application campaign. Coordinated by Vytautas Magnus University in Lithuania, it offers 17 scholarships with €1,400 monthly and tuition coverage for a two-year European master’s.

If dance, sport or movement has shaped your life, this programme invites you to study what those practices mean to communities. Its focus is research, cultural heritage and documentation, rather than professional dance training.

Your application therefore needs more than an impressive performance: you must explain it. Here is how the study route, funding and portfolio fit together—and what to do if the application portal still displays the previous intake.

01Where does Choreomundus take you?

The published route starts in Lithuania, continues through Greece and France, and finishes in Lithuania or the UK. Country cards describe the existing curriculum; its detailed semester table still carries a 2026–2027 label.

Lithuania
Vytautas Magnus University
Coordinator · Semester 1; one final-semester route
Greece
National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
Semester 2 · Dance and movement analysis
France
Université Clermont Auvergne
Semester 3 · Heritage and documentation
United Kingdom
University of Roehampton
Alternative final-semester route · London

The programme combines fieldwork, movement analysis and digital documentation. Do not assume a guaranteed London placement: the FAQ says students cannot freely choose their mobility path.

02What funding can you receive?

The 2027 funding page distinguishes a tuition waiver from a tuition waiver plus scholarship. Seventeen selected applicants receive €1,400 for each of 24 months—€33,600 in total—alongside the waiver, valued at €18,000.

Other admitted applicants may receive tuition coverage without the monthly allowance. No tuition-paying places are offered, and no separate scholarship application is needed. I would assess a waiver-only offer carefully: living and travel expenses still need financing.

03Who is a suitable Choreomundus applicant?

A relevant bachelor’s degree and demonstrated dance or movement experience are the main starting points. Humanities and social-science backgrounds fit naturally; applicants from other fields may also be considered with strong relevant experience.

The university lists a minimum “60% CGPA”, described as equivalent to grade C in its European framework. Do not invent a conversion to your local GPA. Approved prior learning and professional experience may support exceptional admission below that benchmark.

English is normally required at B2, with an education-in-English route available. Roehampton has additional requirements for its final-semester students, including IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with at least 5.5 in each component as one accepted option.

04How to prepare and submit your application

Apply through the coordinator’s DreamApply system, reached from the official Choreomundus instructions. Use the programme’s published selection weights to organise your preparation:

Assessment Weight Evidence
Academic record 40% Degree results and supporting academic documents
Portfolio 30% CV, two signed recommendations, practice video and analytical essay
Motivation 30% Your reasons for this programme and its relevance to your plans
  1. Read the current instructions. Use the official application page, entry and portfolio requirements and 2027 funding rules. Follow VMU’s linked country-specific qualification requirements.
  2. Build a connected portfolio. Provide a video of your own practice, no longer than three minutes, and a self-written essay of no more than two pages analysing that same clip. Put the video URL in a Word/PDF document. Add your CV, two signed recommendations and a separate motivation letter.
  3. Prepare academic evidence. Supply qualification documents and official English translations where necessary, plus English-language evidence. The DreamApply listing also requests an academic transcript sent directly by your institution to [email protected]; arrange this with your registrar.
  4. Use the correct intake. Open the official DreamApply listing. The version retrieved still shows the closed 2026 round. If that persists, email [email protected] with “APPLICATION ENQUIRIES” to obtain the 2027 submission route; do not submit to an old intake.
  5. Submit and monitor your email. Complete all required uploads by the deadline. Shortlisted candidates are invited to a five-minute Zoom/Teams interview; selection is then decided by the programme committees.

My recommendation is to select your video before writing the essay. Explain its setting, participants and cultural meaning, using observations you can genuinely support.

05What could weaken your application?

Keep performance and analysis connected.
A general essay about dance does not replace analysis of your submitted clip. Respect both length limits, test the video link, and distinguish a tuition-only offer from an award that includes living support.

06Questions before you apply

Must my video show traditional dance?

No. The programme welcomes diverse movement practices, including choreography, teaching, sport and related performance. Choose a clip that demonstrates your own practice and gives you something meaningful to analyse.

Is Choreomundus a practical dance academy?

No. Its FAQ describes an academic programme analysing dance practice. It suits applicants interested in research and cultural understanding, rather than primarily improving performance technique.

Can someone with a media or engineering degree apply?

Potentially. The programme considers other academic backgrounds where applicants demonstrate substantial dance, movement or sports experience. Eligibility does not guarantee admission or a scholarship.
