Chalmers University of Technology Scholarships 2027: 5 Application Steps

Chalmers University of Technology has announced that its scholarships for fee-paying master’s students will open in late November 2026 for autumn 2027 entry. Start preparing before that window: you must submit your master’s programme application first, then use its application number to complete the separate scholarship form.

The main Chalmers awards reduce tuition fees; they do not provide a general monthly living allowance. Your preparation therefore needs to answer two questions: which programme can you qualify for, and how will you pay the costs remaining after a scholarship?

Which Chalmers scholarship should you prepare for?

Start with your fee status and nationality, then compare the tuition coverage. These scholarships target incoming students. The following comparison summarises the currently published award conditions; some descriptions still refer to 2026, so check updated 2027 details when applications open.

Scholarship Applicant group Published tuition coverage
Avancez Fee-paying non-EU/EEA citizens 75% reduction
IPOET Fee-paying non-EU/EEA citizens 75% reduction
US Friends of Chalmers Fee-paying US citizens; two architecture programmes excluded 100% waiver
Adlerbert Study Scholarships Citizens of 143 specified countries 100% waiver

The US Friends award excludes Architecture and Urban Design and Architecture and Planning Beyond Sustainability. Adlerbert applicants should check the official country list. Award numbers for 2027 are not yet specified.

Under the current regulations, excellent Avancez and IPOET recipients may qualify for an increase to 85% tuition coverage in year 2. This is conditional, so budget around the original 75% award.

Can you afford the costs beyond Chalmers tuition?

You still need living-cost funding, even if your scholarship covers all tuition. EU/EEA and Swiss citizens are normally tuition-exempt, and certain Swedish residence statuses also provide exemptions. Establish your fee status before choosing a fee-paying scholarship route.

A 75% tuition reduction leaves 25% payable. For example, if your programme’s annual tuition were SEK 160,000, your remaining annual tuition would be SEK 40,000. This is an illustration, not a quoted programme fee; check the actual fee for your chosen master’s.

Chalmers currently estimates monthly living expenses at approximately SEK 14,360–18,360. Treat this as a planning estimate: accommodation and personal spending vary. Build your budget around remaining tuition, housing, food, travel and permit expenses. Check the Swedish Migration Agency’s requirements applicable when you apply for your residence permit in 2027.

Scholarship continuation also depends on progress. Current regulations require at least 30 credits from the first three study periods, registered by 15 May, to retain funding for the next academic year. A partial scholarship leaves you responsible for paying the balance by the invoice deadline.

What should you prepare before the scholarship portal opens?

Build an admission-ready application first: scholarship consideration depends on meeting your chosen master’s entry requirements. Chalmers generally requires a bachelor’s equivalent of at least three years in science, engineering, technology or architecture, plus programme-specific prerequisites.

Compare your transcript with the required subjects now. Collect degree records, transcripts, course descriptions, citizenship evidence and official translations where needed. Check Chalmers’ document instructions for your CV, motivation letter and any programme-specific portfolio, reference or work-experience evidence.

Chalmers states that admission has no universal minimum CGPA. Its published scholarship descriptions, however, identify a weighted average grade of at least 80% among the selection considerations. Meeting admission requirements therefore does not establish scholarship competitiveness.

Book an English test if your previous education does not meet the approved English-evidence rules. For English 6/Level 2, IELTS requires 6.5 overall with no section below 5.5. TOEFL results dated 21 January 2026 or later require 4.5 overall with no section below 4; earlier results require 90 overall and 20 in writing. PTE Academic requires 62 overall with 61 in writing.

Some previous studies can meet the English requirement, but a general university proficiency letter is not automatically sufficient. Check the rule for your country and qualification before relying on an exemption.

How do you apply for admission and a Chalmers scholarship?

Submit two applications: the national master’s application and the separate Chalmers scholarship application. Do not wait for an admission offer to apply for funding.

  1. Apply for your master’s. From 16 October 2026, submit your programme choices through University Admissions. Check prerequisites and rank choices in your genuine order of preference. Chalmers recommends placing its programme first to improve scholarship prospects.
  2. Save your application number. You need the eight-digit number for the scholarship form.
  3. Apply for funding when the round opens. In late November, follow the portal link from Chalmers’ official scholarship application guide. Use the same email address as your admission application. You may seek multiple awards if eligible.
  4. Complete admission evidence and payment. Follow the Chalmers master’s application instructions and scholarship. Submit documents and pay the SEK 900 admission application fee, unless exempt, by 1 February 2027.
  5. Check email and accept any scholarship offer. Confirm acceptance within the deadline stated in your award notification.

You can submit the scholarship form while admission documents are still being completed, but your admission application must ultimately be complete and eligible. Applying early gives you time to correct mistakes; Chalmers says early submission itself does not increase the likelihood of an award.

Which Chalmers 2027 deadlines must you keep separate?

The last date to submit your Chalmers master’s programme application is 15 January 2027 at midnight CET. The admission window opens on 16 October 2026.

Chalmers-administered scholarship applications open in late November 2026 and close in mid-January 2027. Chalmers states that the scholarship deadline aligns with the programme deadline, so prepare to submit both by 15 January 2027, checking the live scholarship portal for the exact closing instructions.

The supporting-document and application-fee deadline is 1 February 2027; this does not extend the scholarship application window. Admission results are scheduled for 1 April 2027, scholarship notifications for mid-March to late April 2027, and the autumn semester starts on 30 August 2027.
