Sweden Fully Funded Scholarships 2027 Application Opening & Closing Dates
Planning to study in Sweden in 2027? Start with your funding needs, your fee status and the programme you will rank first. The eight Swedish scholarship routes below mainly support autumn entry, and most pay tuition only. You can apply without IELTS if you meet the university’s English requirement through another accepted route, but there is no blanket English-test exemption for scholarship applicants.
For autumn 2027, Sweden’s first international admissions round opens on 16 October 2026 and closes on 15 January 2027. Scholarship applications follow separate schedules: KTH has published exact dates, Borås has confirmed its scholarship opening, Chalmers has announced its application period, and several other universities have yet to confirm their detailed 2027 calendars.

Which Sweden funding route fits your nationality and degree?
Your citizenship and fee status determine whether a tuition scholarship is relevant. Swedish, EU/EEA and Swiss citizens generally do not pay application or tuition fees. Certain residence categories also qualify for exemptions. Most other international bachelor’s and master’s applicants must pay fees, making university tuition awards relevant across Asia, Africa, the Americas, Oceania and non-EU/EEA Europe.
If you need both tuition and living support, investigate the Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals first. Its latest published package provides full tuition, SEK 12,000 monthly and a one-time travel grant of SEK 15,000, reduced to SEK 10,000 for specified countries. Applicants need eligible citizenship, an approved master’s programme, fee-paying status, and documented work and leadership experience. These are the latest published terms, not a guarantee of the 2027 package.
The published SI citizenship list for the 2026/2027 academic year includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia. Eligibility for autumn 2027 must be checked against the new 2027/2028 call. Applicants outside the eligible list should focus on university awards.
Looking for a PhD? These eight routes are primarily degree-admission scholarships for bachelor’s or master’s study. Swedish doctoral studies are exempt from application and tuition fees, with applications and funding handled directly by the university. Search the institution’s doctoral opportunities rather than using this scholarship calendar.
Which of these 8 Sweden Scholarships should you Target for 2027?
Compare the amount you still need to pay before choosing your first-ranked programme. Full tuition funding does not pay your rent, food or travel unless the award explicitly includes them. Where a 2027 call is pending, the table identifies the currently published award structure and separates it from confirmed future dates.

Your first choice matters. KTH, Uppsala, Lund, Umeå and Linköping attach scholarship eligibility to first-priority study choices. You cannot rank all five first in the same master’s application. Choose the programme that best matches your academic background and the funding route you can realistically pursue.
Check programme restrictions before committing. Lund’s bachelor’s exceptions are Development Studies, Mathematics, Physics and Physical Geography. Umeå’s current rules exclude the double-degree master’s in Sustainability Reporting and Financial Analysis. The KTH Scholarship excludes joint Erasmus+ and EIT programmes and Computer Simulations for Science and Engineering; separate joint-programme funding may be available. Uppsala also excludes named programmes, so check your exact degree against its scholarship restrictions.
Borås supports selected master’s programmes in IT, information science, textile management, textile engineering and resource recovery. Check the exact eligible programme list before applying: a fashion management programme can qualify, while an artistic fashion design programme does not. Its university scholarships are for autumn entry, not spring. Read our Borås autumn 2027 scholarship preparation guide to plan the separate application and remaining tuition budget.
For Linköping, the current academic threshold is GPA 3.5/4.0, a first or high second class degree, or equivalent; institutional rankings also enter the assessment. Meeting the threshold permits consideration but does not secure an award.
Can you apply for Sweden scholarships in 2027 without IELTS?
Yes, if you prove the required English level through an accepted alternative or qualifying education. A scholarship does not waive programme admission requirements. For the common English 6/English Level 2 requirement, accepted alternatives include:
- PTE Academic: overall 62, writing 61.
- Cambridge C1 Advanced: overall 180.
- TOEFL iBT taken from 21 January 2026: overall 4.5 on the new 1–6 scale, with no section below 4.
- TOEFL iBT taken on or before 20 January 2026: total 90, writing 20, subject to verification and validity rules.
Qualifying previous education can also satisfy English Level 2, including a recognized bachelor’s with English as the main subject, certain African bachelor’s qualifications, or 60 ECTS-equivalent credits taught in English in specified countries.
A medium-of-instruction letter alone is not a universal exemption. Check the rules for your country of education and your programme’s required level. Programmes requiring English 7/Level 3 have higher thresholds. Confirm your route before deciding to skip a test.
How do you apply for Swedish admission and scholarships in the right order?
Submit the programme application first, then complete the separate scholarship process required by your chosen funder. Applying for admission alone does not complete your scholarship application.
- Choose a programme you qualify for. Check degree equivalence, required subject credits, English level, tuition and scholarship exclusions. Use the official English requirements to establish your evidence route.
- Apply through University Admissions Sweden from 16 October 2026. Master’s applicants can select up to four programmes. Finalise the ranking and submit by 15 January 2027, considering the scholarship’s first-choice rule.
- Complete your admissions file. Prepare your passport, degree certificate and transcripts, accepted English evidence, required translations and programme-specific materials. Pay the SEK 900 application fee if required, or document your exemption. The national fee and supporting-document deadline is 1 February 2027; KTH’s main admissions guide also gives this date. Submit early and check any programme-specific instructions.
- Follow your scholarship’s official application route. Use the relevant guidance below; record your admissions application number and prepare the scholarship-specific answers or documents.
- Monitor your account and email. Umeå invites eligible applicants to register interest; Linköping’s application window follows admission and can be very short. After an award, meet the acceptance deadline and arrange any remaining tuition and living funds.
- SI: Follow the Global Professionals call for the new citizenship/programme lists, current templates and February portal dates. Prepare evidence of employment and leadership now.
- KTH: Submit the separate form on the KTH Scholarship page during its confirmed window. Explain how your studies will contribute to sustainable development.
- Uppsala: Watch the Uppsala scholarship page for the early-2027 application and programme restrictions.
- Lund: Use the separate portal linked from the Lund Global Scholarship page when it opens. Prepare a scholarship motivation letter of no more than 600 words, distinct from any programme statement.
- Chalmers: Follow Chalmers scholarship instructions after submitting your programme choices; the separate scholarship form requires your admissions application number.
- Umeå: Check the Umeå scholarship instructions and the email address registered with University Admissions for your invitation.
- Borås: Apply to an eligible master’s through University Admissions, then submit the separate form on the University of Borås scholarship page from 1 December 2026. Prepare your academic evidence and check the form’s attachment requirements and closing time. Admission alone does not complete the scholarship application.
- Linköping: Follow the LiU International Scholarship instructions immediately after first-choice admission; current rules require no additional supporting documents for the scholarship application.
