China Government Scholarships 2027-2028

Tianjin University Opens Multiple Scholarships (2027) for International Students (BS, MS, PHD Admissions)

Tianjin University has opened more than one route to funded postgraduate study in China for 2027. Alongside the Chinese Government Scholarship–High Level Postgraduate Program, its current admissions guides invite applications for the Tianjin Government Scholarship for master’s students and the Peiyang Future Scholar Scholarship for doctoral students.

The choices extend to undergraduate scholarship applications and a spring 2027 Chinese-language study award, but the funding and deadlines differ sharply. Which route covers housing, which lasts only one year, and which needs two online submissions? This guide separates the confirmed offers from award details still awaiting a 2027 update.

01Which Tianjin University scholarships can you apply for now?

Three postgraduate routes are available through TJU’s current 2027 admissions cycle; a separate non-degree language scholarship is on its final listed application day. Graduate subjects span engineering, computing, sciences, architecture, education, law, management and health-related disciplines. Compare what you would actually receive:

Scholarship and level Verified support Duration and application route
Chinese Government Scholarship–High Level Postgraduate Program: master’s/PhD Tuition and campus housing waived, medical insurance, CNY 3,000/month for master’s or CNY 3,500/month for PhD. Master’s funding 2–3 years; PhD 3–5 years. CSC Type B plus TJU application.
Tianjin Government Scholarship: master’s First prize: tuition subsidy, living allowance and medical insurance. Second prize: tuition subsidy only. Current 2027 guide does not give award amounts. One academic year; students may apply annually. Signed scholarship form through TJU.
Peiyang Future Scholar Scholarship: PhD The 2027 form specifies CNY 38,000 tuition subsidy, CNY 3,500/month for 12 months, and campus accommodation. 3–4 years, subject to annual review. Signed scholarship form through TJU.
International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship: spring one-semester study Tuition, double-room accommodation, medical insurance and CNY 2,500/month. Up to five months; March–July 2027. Scholarship portal and TJU, with institutional recommendation.

The 2027 master’s admissions guide confirms Tianjin Government Scholarship applications and both prize categories; its 2027 scholarship form is available. Do not import the monetary rates on TJU’s older 2025 scholarship page into this intake.

For doctoral applicants, the 2027 PhD guide and 2027 Peiyang application form confirm the alternative to CSC. Peiyang does not list medical insurance as included; TJU lists insurance at CNY 800/year and architecture PhD tuition at CNY 39,000/year, so those applicants should clarify any cost beyond the CNY 38,000 subsidy.

I would compare the award’s duration as carefully as its stipend: a one-year municipal award is a different financial commitment from a multi-year doctoral scholarship.

02What is available for bachelor’s applicants in 2027?

TJU’s 2027 undergraduate admissions guide invites scholarship applications and names five schemes: Qiushi Scholarship, Tianjin University Scholarship, Chemical Engineering Special Scholarship, Motian Group Scholarship and Indonesia Sugang Scholarship.

However, the linked award-specific brochures still show older intakes. Their 2027 amounts, subject coverage and nationality conditions are not fully verified. Treat them as listed application options rather than five confirmed worldwide fully funded awards; obtain the current award terms from [email protected] before selecting a scheme.

TJU advertises 80 undergraduate programmes, including 13 available in English; architecture takes five years and other degrees normally four. Scholarship eligibility can be narrower than this catalogue. CSC Type A is also listed for Chinese-taught bachelor’s study, but its opening and deadline depend on the embassy or dispatching authority in your country.

03Which academic and language requirements apply to your route?

All routes require non-Chinese citizenship, while the degree, age and language rules depend on what you intend to study.

  • Bachelor’s: high-school qualification, normally ages 18–25; younger entrants require TJU’s specified Tianjin guardian documentation. HSK 4/180 for School of International Education programmes, HSK 5/180 for other Chinese-taught courses; English routes require IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80, with recognised native-speaker exemption.
  • Master’s/PhD: bachelor’s/master’s qualification respectively. General admissions guides set age limits of 35/40; the dedicated CSC English notice uses “under 35/40”. Chinese routes normally require HSK 5/180; English routes IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80, with recognised native-speaker or previous English-medium degree alternatives. The general master’s guide also lists Duolingo 110; the dedicated CSC call does not.
  • English-taught MBA: supervisor acceptance letter, IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 85, GPA above 3.2/4.0 and at least one year of relevant work experience. Fresh graduates are excluded.
  • Spring language-study award: interest in Chinese-language education; ages 18–35 as measured on 1 September 2026, extended to 45 for in-service Chinese teachers. Chinese education/literature study requires HSK 3/180 plus HSKK; Taiji Culture requires an HSK report. The same scholarship must not have been held within the preceding three years.

For language-study funding, follow the specific TJU Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship call rather than degree-admission rules. Former Chinese citizens and applicants with Chinese-parentage circumstances must also provide the nationality evidence required by their admissions route.

04What should you prepare before opening the application?

Prepare the academic record first, then add the documents specific to your award. The current degree guides require:

  • Diploma or pre-graduation certificate, transcripts, passport valid beyond the stated 2027 entry threshold, language evidence and a continuous CV from high school onward.
  • Study plan: at least 600 words for undergraduate entry, in the programme’s teaching language; at least 1,000 words in Chinese or English for graduate entry. Doctoral proposals need a TJU supervisor’s signature.
  • Graduate applicants: two professor/associate-professor recommendations; supervisor acceptance form if obtained, and compulsorily for the English MBA. CSC PhD applicants must supply published papers or formal publication-acceptance evidence.
  • Medical examination after 30 September 2026 and police record issued within six months before application; current graduates may provide the accepted university good-conduct evidence. Applicants in China need visa/conduct records. Architecture applicants need a portfolio and video; municipal and Peiyang applicants need bank-deposit or guarantor-income evidence.
  • Signed scholarship application form for the selected TJU award. Other-language records require notarised Chinese or English translations alongside originals.

Bachelor’s applicants must also take CSCA and upload the score report, using TJU’s programme-specific test-subject requirements and the official CSCA website. I recommend starting the study plan early; our Chinese scholarship study-plan guide helps structure the argument, while TJU’s prescribed template and signatures take priority.

The spring language award has its own checklist: passport, valid HSK/HSKK reports, recommendation from the head of a recommending institution, highest qualification/transcript and recent police clearance. Do not substitute graduate references for that institutional recommendation.

05How do you submit the right Tianjin University scholarship application?

Most awards use TJU’s portal, but CSC and the language-teachers scheme each require an additional scholarship-system submission.

  1. Choose the programme and award. Match the degree and teaching language to the current catalogue. Undergraduate applicants must complete CSCA before finalising their application evidence.
  2. For CSC Type B, submit to CSC first. Follow the 2027 High Level Postgraduate call and CSC-issued instructions: apply through CSC Study in China, choose Type B and agency 10056, submit and download the CSC form.
  3. Submit the TJU application. Register at the TJU International Student Service System. Upload the CSC form or signed Tianjin Government/Peiyang award form, plus the correct supporting documents. The undergraduate guide specifies the “Scholarship Application Form” upload field.
  4. For spring language study, complete both systems. Use the CLEC scholarship website and TJU portal, selecting Tianjin University as host and arranging the recommending institution’s support.
  5. Attend assessment and follow payment instructions. Monitor your email and portal. Degree applicants normally pay CNY 500 after admission; CSC winners are exempt. Non-CSC-pre-admitted undergraduates must also pay the CNY 7,000 guarantee deposit when requested; personal withdrawal makes those payments non-refundable.

06Which mistakes should scholarship applicants avoid?

The main risks are using the wrong deadline, assuming every award pays living costs, or applying through incompatible CSC channels.

Before submitting: do not use the general admission closing date for CSC Type B. Second-prize municipal funding is tuition-only; it does not include the first-prize allowance. TJU says applicants must choose CSC Type A or Type B rather than duplicate both, and CSC permits only one Type B application per academic year. Missing a required interview, signatures or undergraduate CSCA evidence can leave the application incomplete.

07Questions applicants should resolve before accepting funding

Does admission mean I have won a scholarship?

No. A degree offer and a funding decision are separate. CSC awards require the final CSC decision; other applicants should rely on the scholarship terms stated in their award/admission documents.

Can the Tianjin Government Scholarship fund my whole master’s automatically?

No. TJU specifies a one-academic-year award and allows annual applications. Do not budget for later years as guaranteed funding.

Are Silk Road and all the other scholarship-menu entries open for 2027?

No current 2027 Silk Road call was located; the published 2026 call has closed. A scholarship name in the website menu does not establish a new application window.

08What are the different Tianjin University scholarship deadlines?

The earliest listed cutoff is 31 October 2026, Beijing time (UTC+8), for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship’s spring 2027 one-semester programme. This is the verification date; the call specifies no closing hour. Its degree and autumn-study deadlines from the 2026 cycle have already passed.

CSC High Level Postgraduate Program: the last date to apply for the 2027 scholarship offered by Tianjin University is 15 January 2027. Complete both CSC and TJU submissions.

Peiyang Future Scholar Scholarship: the last date to apply for Tianjin University’s 2027 doctoral award is 31 May 2027. The current master’s guide gives 31 May as the Tianjin Government Scholarship cutoff, subject to any dedicated annual update.

Undergraduate scholarship applicants: TJU instructs candidates to submit before 1 April 2027. General degree admission runs from 30 September 2026 to 31 May 2027; that later closing date does not extend scholarship cutoffs. CSC Type A dates remain country-specific.

TJU plans general graduate interviews for February–June and results in July 2027; CSC Type B follows its dedicated earlier review schedule. Submit against your chosen award’s timeline, then monitor the application account for the next decision.
