Step 1: Secure a Job Offer – The Key to Express Entry Success!

If you’ve got your eyes set on Canada, your first move is to secure a valid job offer. But wait—what exactly counts as a valid job offer under the new Express Entry system? Here’s what you need to know:

Your job offer must include:

    • Start date of employment
    • Employer’s name and address
    • Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) number (if applicable)
    • The correct National Occupational Classification (NOC) code
    • Written confirmation detailing your pay, job duties, and employment conditions

IMPORTANT: A work permit is NOT a job offer. If you have an open work permit, you still need an official job offer to qualify under Express Entry!

Step 2: Who Can Apply? – Express Entry Sub-Programs Explained!

Canada’s Express Entry system consists of three sub-programs, each with unique job offer requirements:

1# Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) & Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

    • The job must be full-time (30+ hours/week), paid, and continuous
    • It must last for at least 1 year after receiving permanent residency
    • It must be in a NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 category
    • It must come from an employer with a new LMIA, OR if you are already working in Canada with an LMIA-based work permit, your current employer must offer you a full-time job.

2# Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) – For Skilled Tradespeople!

    • You can have a job offer from one or two employers
    • Must be in an eligible trade occupation like electricians, carpenters, welders, and more
    • Employers must provide a valid LMIA unless your current work permit qualifies for an exemption!

3# Special Rules for Physicians

    • If you applied after April 25, 2023, your job offer does NOT need to be continuous for a year!
    • You can still earn points under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and boost your Express Entry score.

Do You Need an LMIA as Per New Update?

A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document proving that no Canadian worker is available for the job. In most cases, your employer must get an LMIA before offering you a job!

For 2025, the Canadian Immigration Department has updated LMIA policies to align with the new Express Entry framework. In most cases, your employer must get an LMIA before offering you a job! Here’s when an LMIA is required:

You DO need an LMIA if:

    • You do not have a valid Canadian work permit
    • Your current work permit is expired
    • You are working under an open work permit
    • Your job offer is from an employer not listed on your work permit

You DO NOT need an LMIA if:

    • You’ve worked full-time for the employer for at least 1 year under a valid work permit
    • Your work permit is exempt from an LMIA under international agreements (CUSMA, GATS), provincial agreements, or special Canadian interest programs.

Step 3: Prove You Can Do the Job!

Before your visa gets the green light, Canadian officials need to be convinced that:

    • You can perform the job duties
    • You meet the licensing or certification requirements in the province where you will work

Every province has different rules, so make sure to check the licensing authorities for your profession before applying!

Final Thoughts: Is 2025 YOUR Year for Canada?

This major Express Entry update is set to make it easier for skilled workers to secure a valid job offer and immigrate to Canada hassle-free. If you’re serious about making your move, now is the time to start networking, securing an LMIA-backed job offer, and ensuring you meet the eligibility criteria.
