CNE Scholarship 2027 to Study Jointly in France, Italy, Poland on Erasmus Project
Want to understand how a material becomes a nanosensor, an energy device or a biomedical system? The CNE Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2027 offers a fully funded master’s route through France, Poland and Italy, with €1,400 a month for scholarship recipients. Its next application campaign is announced and has not yet opened.
Chemical Nanoengineering, coordinated by Aix-Marseille University, connects chemical synthesis with modelling, characterisation and engineering applications. You study in English across three universities rather than choosing a single campus. That makes it especially interesting if you want to connect laboratory chemistry with the design of useful nanoscale systems.
Before preparing your application, two questions matter: does your degree provide the right scientific foundation, and can you show that interest through CNE’s required nanoengineering essay? Here is how the funding, study route and application fit together.
01 · Where will CNE take you during the master’s?
CNE follows a fixed route through Marseille, Wrocław and Rome, with all courses taught in English. Each teaching semester contributes 30 ECTS and adds a different layer to your training:
🇫🇷 FRANCE
01 · Marseille
Aix-Marseille University
Begin with chemistry and nanoscience: the foundations for understanding and designing nanoscale systems.
🇵🇱 POLAND
02 · Wrocław
Wrocław University of Science and Technology
Move into nanoengineering, including fabrication, smart polymers and biomedical applications.
🇮🇹 ITALY
03 · Rome
University of Rome Tor Vergata
Explore nano applications and choose a modelling or chemistry option before your thesis project.
My recommendation is to look beyond the destination list: CNE’s particular strength is bringing chemical synthesis and numerical design into the same training route. That combination should match the kind of problem you want to investigate.

02 · What does the CNE Erasmus Mundus Scholarship pay?
Selected scholars receive €1,400 per month during the two-year programme. Erasmus Mundus funding covers participation costs and contributes towards living, travel and visa expenses. Over 24 funded months, the allowance totals €33,600.
CNE also advertises tuition-free participation for self-financing students. The important difference is whether you receive money to support your stay:
| CNE route | Tuition/participation | Living and mobility budget |
|---|---|---|
| Erasmus Mundus scholar | Participation costs covered. | €1,400 monthly; scholarship-holder insurance is also described in CNE’s FAQ. |
| Self-financing student | Tuition-free participation advertised by CNE. | No scholarship; you pay accommodation, living and travel expenses. |
One application covers admission and scholarship ranking. Previous EMJM scholarship recipients cannot receive a second EMJM award, and scholars cannot combine it with another EU Community grant during the same studies.

03 · Does your academic background meet CNE’s requirements?
CNE requires a relevant bachelor’s or equivalent and grades reaching at least 75% of the maximum grading scale. Listed backgrounds include chemistry, physics, materials science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and electronic engineering. Related graduates, including biomedical or polymer engineers, may apply for committee assessment.
Final-year students can submit university confirmation of their status and expected graduation, then complete their degree before the master’s begins.
English evidence needs care: CNE accepts certified proof of an English-taught degree. For test applicants, both official pages list TOEFL iBT 91, but the application page prints IELTS “6,2” while the FAQ says 6.5. I would prepare for 6.5 and request clarification from the coordinator if relying on a lower result.

04 · How do you prepare and submit the CNE application?
Apply once through CNE’s own platform; you do not apply separately to the three universities. Our Erasmus Mundus 2027–2028 application guide explains the wider selection system; follow these CNE-specific steps:
- Check your fit and funding choice. Read CNE’s admission instructions, curriculum and scholarship rules. Indicate whether you would accept self-financing admission; its tuition-free terms still leave living costs to you.
- Assemble the official checklist. The CNE application checklist requires a CV, motivation letter, certified post-secondary diplomas and transcripts with English translations, enrolment proof if applicable, passport, English evidence, residence proof, photograph and a nanoengineering essay of no more than four pages.
- Develop two distinct pieces of writing. Use the motivation letter to explain your fit and goals; use the essay to discuss a nanoengineering topic that interests you. Our motivation-letter guidance can help structure the first. The Europass CV guide is optional preparation support; CNE’s published checklist does not mandate that format.
- Arrange two recommendations. Enter your referees’ details early; they receive invitations to submit their recommendations directly. Follow the CNE FAQ for reference requests and certified residence evidence.
- Open the correct campaign. Register or log in through the CNE application platform and select the CNE 2027 campaign. Applying is free. Complete the form, upload your documents and validate the application so its status becomes “Sent”.
Keep a copy of your submission. For the conflicting IELTS or closing-date instructions, contact the programme at [email protected] before relying on the less restrictive version.

05 · CNE questions that can change your application
Is CNE suitable if I prefer computational work to laboratory chemistry?
Yes, CNE includes numerical modelling and a modelling option in Rome. It also retains substantial chemistry and synthesis training, so it suits applicants who want those areas connected rather than an exclusively computational degree.
Can a four-year engineering graduate enter directly into CNE’s second year?
No. CNE requires the complete two-year programme, even if your bachelor’s lasted four years. Plan for the full mobility route.
What should the nanoengineering essay discuss?
Choose a nanoengineering or nanotechnology subject that interests you and present your own informed perspective. CNE prescribes no specific structure, but the checklist limits the essay to four pages.

06 · When does the CNE 2027 application campaign open and close?
The live CNE 2027 campaign opens on 2 November 2026 at 00:00 and lists a closing date of 15 February 2027 at 23:59, Europe/Paris time (CET, UTC+1). However, the programme’s application-information page gives an application window from 1 November to 2 February 2027.
Because these official dates conflict, my recommendation is to have your complete CNE scholarship application submitted by 2 February 2027, unless the consortium confirms the later campaign deadline applies. Both official sources are linked in the application steps above.
