EDISS Software Engineering Scholarships 2027 Application Process
Planning to study software engineering, data science and intelligent systems in Europe in 2027? EDISS has confirmed its next scholarship application round: 16 November 2026 to 12 January 2027, for studies starting in August 2027. The round is not yet open, so use the preparation period to secure English evidence, contact academic referees and build an application that shows why your technical background fits EDISS.
The Engineering of Data-intensive Intelligent Software Systems programme is a two-year, 120-ECTS Erasmus Mundus joint master’s. Your first decision is whether you need living-cost support: the main scholarship round and the later tuition waiver round offer different funding routes.

Which EDISS round should you target?
Target round 1 if you want consideration for a scholarship with living-cost support. EDISS has announced a separate tuition fee waiver round and a third round for self-funded applicants. The current admissions rules require a fresh application for each round; submitting once does not automatically carry your application into later rounds.
For budgeting, the published intake 6 Erasmus Mundus package combines a participation-cost waiver, health insurance and €1,400 monthly for 24 months. Its EDISS scholarship lists a waiver and insurance with €800/month in year 1 and €310/month in year 2. These are previous-intake figures, not a confirmed intake 7 offer.
The published tuition waiver package covers participation costs and insurance without a regular monthly living stipend. If you consider this route, calculate accommodation, everyday expenses, travel and residence permit costs before accepting. The participation fee currently listed is €9,000 per year, but scholarship coverage and any updated fees should be checked for intake 7.
Does your background fit the EDISS study routes?
EDISS suits applicants who can connect computing foundations with the engineering of intelligent software. Compare your transcript with programming, algorithms, software engineering and mathematics requirements before spending time on presentation.
All students begin at Åbo Akademi University in Finland. The second-year routes are:
- Sweden: Industrial Software Engineering at Mälardalen University.
- Spain: Computer Vision and Intelligent Systems at the University of the Balearic Islands.
- Italy: Model Driven Machine Learning – Software Engineering at the University of L’Aquila.
You follow a second-year route rather than study at all four universities. Allocation takes place during the first year and considers preferences, academic performance and teaching staff input.
Applicants can also come from fields such as mathematics, bioinformatics or electrical engineering when their coursework meets the computing requirements. Final-year applicants can seek conditional admission with a transcript and an institutional statement identifying remaining courses and expected graduation. Confirm the intake 7 final-document deadline before relying on this route.
What should you prepare before applications open?
Resolve English evidence and academic documents first, then prepare your CV and motivation video. IELTS Academic requires 6.5 overall with every component at least 6.0. For TOEFL tests taken after 21 January 2026, the updated rule is 4.5 overall with no band below 4; earlier tests require 93. TOEFL Home Edition and IELTS Online are excluded.
An English-taught degree alone does not guarantee a waiver. For example, EDISS explicitly requires English test evidence for education completed in Pakistan. The exemption depends on where you completed your education and the supporting evidence, with a separate rule for students enrolled at EDISS partner universities. Ensure test results remain valid at least 14 days after the round ends.
Prepare certified academic records and authorized translations where needed, a passport copy, the mandatory EDISS CV template and proof of experiences you list. Request two signed academic recommendations. Employer references do not replace academic letters.
Your motivation video must last 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes 30 seconds. Explain why EDISS fits your goals, your scientific interests and how your background prepares you. As a practical approach, use one concrete project to show the problem you tackled, your contribution and what you now want to learn.
The published scoring gives academic merit 70 points, relevant experience 15, motivation 10 and recommendations 5. This makes clear academic evidence your priority. Choose referees who can explain your technical work, and gather supporting certificates now: unsupported CV experiences are not considered.
How will you apply for EDISS intake 7?
Apply through the EDISS application hosted on Studyinfo when your chosen round opens. Prepare your answers offline beforehand: the current process says the form cannot be saved as a draft.
- Confirm your round. Use the official intake 7 announcement for the new dates.
- Check your evidence. Follow the EDISS admission requirements for the CV template, English exemptions, document specifications and linked country-specific rules.
- Open the correct live form. Follow the Studyinfo link from the EDISS application-process page, checking that the form identifies intake 7 and your funding round.
- Submit a complete application. Upload colour PDFs and the separate motivation video. Check any fee instructions and arrange referee submissions within the required deadline.
- Keep the confirmation email. Its personal link lets you edit within the permitted period. Monitor email for requests and decisions; retain originals for verification if admitted.
Several detailed pages still display intake 6 dates. Use the intake 7 announcement for application timing, and do not assume an older attachment extension applies to your new application.
