The Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH is inviting applications for a PhD student position for the class of 2025 in the dynamic and forward-thinking “Materials Synthesis and Manufacturing Processes (IMD-2)” department. This scholarship position is specifically for PhD candidates in materials science, materials engineering, or related fields.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a master’s degree in materials science, materials engineering, or a related field with a very good final grade.
  • Possess strong knowledge in materials science, solid-state chemistry, and ideally ceramic process engineering.
  • Have experience in powder synthesis and ceramic component production (mandatory).
  • Knowledge of ceramic ion conductors and electrochemistry is advantageous.
  • Fluent in German and English (spoken and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively on complex tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize ceramic suspensions for innovative manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze and compare traditional ceramic technologies with new spin-coating methods.
  • Investigate rheological parameters to refine layer structure and performance.
  • Perform post-mortem analyses to assess cell performance and durability.
