Get Ready for University of Tokyo MEXT Scholarship 2025 Recommendations

The 2025 University Recommended Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship will provide international students the opportunity to pursue advanced degrees at the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Science. Sponsored by MEXT, the scholarship will cover tuition fees, provide a monthly stipend, and include travel expenses, supporting academically excellent students in their future studies in Japan.

Scholars will benefit from a comprehensive financial package that includes full tuition waivers, a generous monthly allowance, and travel expenses to and from Japan. This support is designed to ensure students can focus on their studies and research without financial burdens.

The monthly stipend for the 2025 batch of MEXT scholarship at University of Tokyo will be ¥144,000 for Master’s students and ¥145,000 for Doctoral students, subject to change based on the government budget.

Eligibility

To qualify, candidates must be non-Japanese nationals demonstrating excellent academic performance. Applicants should meet specific age and health criteria, possess a requisite level of language proficiency in English or Japanese, and be ready to commence their studies in Tokyo by October 2025.

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in either English or Japanese. English speakers need a B2 level on the CEFR scale (e.g., TOEFL iBT 72 or IELTS 5.5), and Japanese speakers must have at least an N2 level on the JLPT.

Application Process

The application process for the 2025 cycle at University of Tokyo for MEXT scholarship will soon open, inviting eligible students to submit their documents online within the designated window.
