Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program 2025, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Research Discipline: Be a basic science researcher or physician-scientist in biological or biomedical sciences supported by HHMI.
  • Postdoctoral Training: Must have been accepted into a postdoctoral laboratory led by a tenured or tenure-track faculty member at a U.S. institution (including Puerto Rico).
  • Research Commitment: Devote at least 75% of total effort to research during the postdoctoral training phase.
  • Postdoctoral Experience: No more than 24 months of postdoctoral training by the application deadline.
  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Hold a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent) conferred before the grant term begins.
    • If the graduate degree is from a U.S. institution: Any nationality may apply.
    • If the graduate degree is from a non-U.S. institution: Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.
  • Degree Timeline:
    • PhD applicants: Degree conferred between February 26, 2023, and January 15, 2026.
    • MD/MD-PhD applicants: No more than 24 months of postdoctoral training by February 26, 2025.
