Would a contribution towards travel and living costs make your Spring 2027 exchange semester possible? The Heyning-Roelli Foundation scholarships in Switzerland support talented Bachelor’s and Master’s students whose finances cannot stretch to an eligible study stay involving Switzerland.
Your first task is to check the university partnership behind your exchange. International students coming to Switzerland and students leaving a Swiss institution may qualify through eligible arrangements. This funding supports temporary mobility during an existing degree; it does not provide admission or finance an entire new degree.

Does your exchange have the Swiss connection this grant requires?
You need an eligible mobility arrangement involving a Swiss institution. Recognized arrangements include the Swiss-European Mobility Programme and exchange agreements between Swiss and foreign universities. Ask your international office whether your planned Spring 2027 placement fits.
- You must be a Bachelor’s or Master’s student with academic ability and demonstrated financial need.
- Remain enrolled at your home university, return to continue your studies, and hold exchange-student status at the host institution.
- Swiss universities of applied sciences are included in the current application categories.
- Double-degree students, applicants who have already completed an exchange, and those whose exchange has already begun are excluded.
Students enrolled at Swiss institutions who are invited to write a Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis at a foreign university have a separate application route.
How much of your exchange can the foundation pay for?
The award contributes towards a financial shortfall rather than guaranteeing all your costs. Travel and living expenses are relevant, but there is no published standard stipend. The foundation assesses financial need, destination and duration, taking other scholarships into account.
Build your budget before deciding whether the exchange is affordable. Compare expected costs with your savings, family support and other grants, then explain the remaining gap. Receiving another award does not automatically rule you out; it changes the resources available for assessment. Do not commit to a budget that assumes an unconfirmed grant.

You need evidence of academic performance, the planned placement and financial need. Prepare these uploads before completing the online form.

How do you submit the scholarship application?
Apply through the foundation’s online form after checking your mobility route. Scholarship applications are no longer accepted by email.
- Confirm your placement and university deadlines with your international office; the foundation’s deadline does not replace them.
- Read the foundation’s eligibility information and FAQ, then open its official application form and select the appropriate exchange or thesis route.
- Enter your university, stay dates and finances. Report income and support in CHF for the whole stay, rather than monthly figures.
- Upload the required evidence and submit a complete application. Missing documents can prevent review.
When must Spring 2027 exchange applicants apply?
The last date to apply for the Heyning-Roelli Foundation scholarship for a Spring 2027 exchange is 20 October 2026. The German application page specifies 24:00 MEZ/CET. Submit ahead of the final day to avoid uncertainty about the midnight cutoff. Spring-round decisions are communicated by email by the end of November 2026.
The separate thesis-abroad form asks for applications at least one month before the trip or thesis starts. Thesis applicants should check that route’s instructions rather than assume the semester deadline applies.
