Nankai University Scholarships 2027: CSC, President and Tianjin Scholarship Open for International Students

Nankai University scholarships for 2027 are open in China, giving international applicants several ways to fund bachelor’s, master’s and PhD study. Alongside the Chinese Government Scholarship, you can seek Tianjin Government or Study-at-NKU funding; a separate scholarship is also open for one semester of Chinese-language and cultural study.

Your choice begins with what you want to study and how much support you need. Nankai’s undergraduate catalogue includes finance, journalism, data science, chemistry, engineering and medical subjects, while its postgraduate intake offers Chinese- and English-taught routes. But admission to a programme and winning enough funding to attend are separate decisions.

Does your degree level qualify for CSC? Would a tuition subsidy leave accommodation and living costs within reach? This guide compares the open routes, explains the subject and language choices, and takes you through the applications without confusing a university offer with a confirmed scholarship.

Which Nankai funding route fits your next step?
Current opportunitiesThree degree-funding routes, plus a separate March language-study scholarship.
Eligible audienceNon-Chinese applicants meeting the chosen degree and award requirements.
FundingRanges from tuition assistance to tuition, housing, stipend and insurance.
Teaching languageChinese-based undergraduate study; selected English postgraduate programmes.
Application timingEach scholarship has its own cutoff; use the deadline section.
Official information checked27 October 2026. Announced but unverified scholarship windows are identified separately.

01 Which Nankai scholarships can you pursue now?

Four routes currently accept applications or scholarship requests, but their benefits and study purposes differ. Compare the support before committing to an admission route: a tuition subsidy alone does not finance your entire stay.

Scholarship Degree or subject fit What the award provides
CSC Type B Master’s and PhD; eligible postgraduate programmes in Nankai’s 2027 catalogues. Tuition waiver, campus accommodation or subsidy, stipend and medical insurance. The notice does not state the stipend amount.
Tianjin Government Bachelor’s, master’s and PhD applicants entering through the self-funded admission route. The dedicated 2027 notice confirms a tuition subsidy. Amount and final award depend on official approval.
Study-at-NKU / President Scholarship Bachelor’s, master’s and PhD; request consideration within the admission application. First prize: tuition subsidy, living support and medical insurance. Second prize: tuition subsidy. Awards cover one academic year; amounts are not specified.
Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship March 2027 entry; five-month, non-degree study. Subject options appear below. Tuition, campus accommodation, medical insurance and RMB 2,500 per month. This open semester route does not award a degree.

For Tianjin funding, the dedicated scholarship notice takes precedence over broader admission pages describing more generous prize packages. I would budget around the confirmed tuition subsidy until the award letter specifies otherwise.

Other listings are not automatically open calls. Nankai announces a New Sinology doctoral route for 2027, but its scholarship-system opening is unverified. The displayed International Confucian Association and Youth of Excellence calls are for the closed 2026 cycle; CSC Type A depends on your country’s dispatching authority.

02 What degrees and subjects can you choose at Nankai?

The 2027 intake advertises 46 undergraduate, 163 master’s and 129 doctoral programmes. These are admission options, not a promise that every programme receives every scholarship.

  • Bachelor’s: Most degrees take four years; medical degrees take five. Examples include Journalism, International Politics, Business Economics, Financial Management, Finance, Data Science, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Communication Engineering, Pharmacy, Optometry and Stomatology. Some catalogue entries include bilingual teaching, but this is not an English-only undergraduate intake.
  • Master’s: Programmes take two to three years; eight offer English teaching. Choose your exact major and teaching language from the current international master’s catalogue linked in the application section.
  • PhD: The standard duration is four years, with two English-taught options advertised. Nankai also names law, economics, history, literature, philosophy, finance and related management fields for its announced China-focused New Sinology route; that route requires separate scholarship eligibility.
  • One-semester study: The open language scholarship supports Chinese teaching, Chinese language and literature, Chinese history, Chinese philosophy and Taiji culture. Choose this for training rather than a degree.

My recommendation is to match your existing qualification and teaching-language evidence before comparing awards. An appealing scholarship cannot make an unsuitable programme or language route eligible.

03 Which Nankai route matches your qualifications and language scores?

Your academic level, age and language evidence must satisfy both admission and scholarship rules. All routes require non-Chinese nationality; additional nationality-history rules apply to former Chinese citizens and certain applicants with Chinese parents.

  • Bachelor’s: High-school qualification, normally ages 18–25, and a CSCA score report. General Chinese entry starts at HSK 4 with 180, but the 2027 catalogue requires higher scores for some majors: Finance and Insurance require HSK 6 with 180.
  • Master’s and PhD: A bachelor’s degree for master’s entry; a master’s degree for doctoral entry. The English guides specify under 35 and under 40 respectively; the Chinese versions use inclusive age caps. Applicants exactly at the boundary need Nankai’s written ruling. Tianjin’s dedicated award permits ages no older than 25, 35 and 40 by degree level.
  • Postgraduate language: Chinese-taught entry generally requires HSK 5 with 210. English-taught entry accepts IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 80 or Duolingo 105. Stated exemptions include native English speakers and an accepted certificate showing the bachelor’s degree was taught in English.
  • Language-study scholarship: Normally ages 16–35 at the notice’s September 2026 reference date, extended to 45 for serving Chinese teachers. Standard Chinese-subject entry needs HSK 3 with 180 plus HSKK; Taiji requires an HSK result. X1/X2 visa holders are excluded from this semester category.

04 What application documents should Nankai applicants prepare?

Start with the admission checklist for your degree, then add the scholarship-specific evidence. Funding applicants still need financial-support documentation; requesting a scholarship does not remove that requirement.

  • Common degree file: Passport, diploma or official pre-graduation evidence, transcripts, language proof, physical-examination record, financial-support certificate and police clearance. Provide the required notarisation and Chinese/English translations. Bachelor’s and master’s passports must remain valid through at least 1 September 2028; the English doctoral guide requires validity beyond September 2027.
  • Bachelor’s additions: CSCA results, a Chinese personal statement of at least 800 characters, a signed schoolteacher recommendation and applicable guardian/nationality-history documents. CSCA subject combinations differ by major in the catalogue.
  • Postgraduate additions: Two professor/associate-professor recommendations and a statement covering study/research plans, family finances, scholarship reasons, achievements and strengths. The English guide requires at least 800 words. PhD applicants need supervisor acceptance; the Chinese master’s checklist also lists a supervisor letter, so master’s applicants should prepare it or obtain a programme-specific exemption.
  • CSC additions: The CSC form, formal School of International Education pre-admission letter and a plan exceeding 1,000 Chinese characters or English words. The doctoral proposal needs the Chinese supervisor’s signature. Meet both the university statement and CSC plan specifications.

Nankai’s degree guides specify examinations from October 2026 onward. For CSC, medical results are valid for six months and police clearance is normally issued within six months before submission. Complete every medical item, signature, hospital seal and stamped photograph; use our China scholarship medical-form guide to prepare the record.

05 How do you apply for the different Nankai scholarships?

Degree applicants start with Nankai admission; CSC and the language scholarship also require a sponsor-system application. Our CSC application guide explains the wider system, but use the Nankai sequence below.

  1. Select your degree and major. Read the official undergraduate, master’s or doctoral guide and its programme catalogue. Secure the relevant supervisor documents before submitting.
  2. Complete the Nankai application. Use the International Student Online Service System. For Tianjin or Study-at-NKU, select the corresponding scholarship option; no separate scholarship form is required. Selection follows document review, interview and pre-admission.
  3. Add the CSC branch if applicable. Follow the 2027 CSC Type B notice. Complete the CSC application using Type B, agency 10055, download its form and upload it to Nankai. After Nankai review, add the formal pre-admission letter to the CSC file and finish both submissions before the CSC cutoff.
  4. Use the separate language-study branch. Follow the language-scholarship notice, complete Nankai’s application, pay the RMB 400 non-degree application fee and submit through the Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship system with a recommending institution and Nankai as host.
  5. Wait for the actual funding decision. Tianjin awards require government approval and CSC awards require CSC approval. Undergraduate application fees are RMB 400 at pre-admission; postgraduate fees are RMB 600 after admission, with CSC-recipient exemptions. The CSC notice requires no upfront application payment.

For the tuition-subsidy route, the dedicated Tianjin Government Scholarship notice gives the controlling funding and nomination rules. Keep a copy of the final offer before committing to travel or accommodation.

06 What could change your Nankai scholarship decision?

Does a pre-admission letter guarantee scholarship funding?

No. It confirms university-level progress or nomination eligibility. CSC or the relevant scholarship authority still decides the award; use the final funding notice to establish what you will receive.

Can I combine CSC with a Nankai or Chinese-government scholarship?

No. Nankai’s CSC notice prohibits concurrent Chinese-government or Nankai-funded scholarships. Disclose other funding and follow the award conditions rather than adding overlapping packages together.

Is the open CSC Type B call available for bachelor’s study?

No. The current call covers postgraduate study. Nankai’s undergraduate Silk Road route has a separate forthcoming notice; bachelor’s applicants can currently request Tianjin or Study-at-NKU consideration.

Can I apply before my final degree certificate is issued?

Yes, degree applicants may use official pre-graduation or student-status evidence and available transcripts. The completed qualification and final records must be supplied for registration as required by Nankai.

07 What are the Nankai scholarship deadlines for 2027 entry?

The last date to apply for Nankai University’s CSC Type B Scholarship 2027 is 20 March 2027. Its application period is 20 October 2026 to 20 March 2027.

The last date to apply for the March 2027 one-semester Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship at Nankai is 31 October 2026. This is the earliest closing opportunity in this guide.

Tianjin Government and Study-at-NKU funding: postgraduate applicants should submit by 31 May 2027. Undergraduate applicants should follow their earlier programme-specific scholarship cutoff of 30 May 2027, even though the general Tianjin notice says 31 May.

General admission runs from 20 October 2026 to 31 May 2027 for postgraduate degrees and to 4 June 2027 for bachelor’s degrees. Those later admission dates do not extend scholarship deadlines. Degree admission results are scheduled for July 2027.

For the separately announced routes, Nankai lists 28 February 2027 for New Sinology but its scholarship opening remains unverified; the undergraduate Silk Road details are scheduled for April 2027. Neither should be presented as an additional confirmed open scholarship call today.

Choose your degree and funding route, identify the slowest document, and start the statement or supervisor discussion now. I would complete the academic review steps well before the relevant scholarship cutoff, leaving time to obtain formal pre-admission.
