NASA SEES Summer Intern Program 2025 for Students

High school students with a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) can now apply for the STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (SEES) Summer Intern Program 2025, a prestigious and nationally competitive internship hosted by NASA and The University of Texas at Austin Center for Space Research (UT/CSR). This program offers a hands-on opportunity to delve into Earth and space science research under the mentorship of leading scientists and engineers.

About the SEES Program

The SEES program is designed to immerse selected interns in authentic NASA research, focusing on interpreting satellite data, understanding Earth systems, and exploring natural hazards and climate science. Key areas include astronomy, remote sensing, and space geodetic techniques. Interns will work on project-specific tasks, guided by expert mentors, and gain valuable insights into NASA’s cutting-edge research.

New Features of the Program:

  • Distance learning modules on Earth and space science and Python programming.
  • Hands-on research projects with NASA scientists.
  • In-person and virtual project work options.
  • A Virtual SEES Science Symposium to present research findings.

Program Dates and Structure

The program comprises both virtual and on-site components. Interns will begin with distance learning modules from May 1 to July 1, 2025, followed by virtual project work between June and July 5, 2025. The on-site portion of the program, hosted at the University of Texas at Austin, will take place from July 6 to July 19, 2025.

During the on-site phase, housing, meals, and local transportation will be provided, along with a limited number of travel scholarships to Texas. The program concludes with the Virtual SEES Science Symposium on July 21-22, 2025, where interns will showcase their research.

Eligibility and Application Process

Motivated high school students with strong academic records and a keen interest in STEM fields are encouraged to apply. Selection is based on:

  • Academic achievements.
  • Responses to essay questions.
  • An introductory video.
  • A recommendation form.

  • Application Deadline: February 22, 2025, at 11:59 PM PT.
    Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Recommendation Forms Due: March 1, 2025.
  • Notification of Selection: Approximately May 1, 2025.
