University of Pittsburg Asian Studies Center Graduate Fellowship 2025

The Asian Studies Center, in collaboration with the Humanities Center at the University of Pittsburgh, invites applications for the Asian Studies Center Graduate Fellowship 2025-26. This prestigious opportunity aims to support graduate students pursuing interdisciplinary humanities research with a focus on East Asian Studies. The fellowship is designed to foster innovative scholarship by integrating East Asian literature, music, art, language, history, and culture into humanities research.

Fellowship Benefits

  • Monetary Award: Recipients will receive a $10,000 stipend.
  • Professional Development: Fellows will engage with the Humanities Center and Asian Studies Center’s intellectual community, gaining exposure to a multidisciplinary network.
  • Scholarly Presentation: Fellows will present their research within the Humanities Center during the 2025-26 academic year.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  1. Be doctoral candidates (ABD status) in a humanities or humanities-adjacent doctoral program at the University of Pittsburgh.
  2. Attain candidacy by May 15, 2025, through successful prospectus review.
  3. Be in residence in Pittsburgh for the 2025-26 academic year.
  4. Commit to active participation in the Humanities Center and Asian Studies Center’s activities throughout the fellowship period.

Application Requirements

  1. A general application for the Graduate Fellowship.
  2. An additional 600-word statement detailing:
    • Contribution to East Asian Studies through their research.
    • How their dissertation or career trajectory intersects with East Asian Studies.
    • Plans to engage with and contribute to the Asian Studies Center.
    • Prior work relevant to East Asian Studies.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be assessed based on:

  • The project’s potential impact on East Asian Studies and related fields.
  • Contribution to the applicant’s dissertation or career trajectory.
  • Alignment with the Asian Studies Center’s intellectual life.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to East Asian Studies.

Application Deadlines

The last date to apply for the Asian Studies Center Graduate Fellowship 2025-26 is February 24, 2025. Applications for financial assistance for the fellowship are also due by February 24, 2025.
