University of Westminster Scholarship Admissions 2027-2028: Bachelor & Master Degrees
Planning to study at the University of Westminster in 2027? Two scholarship applications are currently open to eligible overseas applicants: the January 2027 International Postgraduate Excellence Award and Chevening for the 2027–28 academic year. Undergraduate applicants have a different route: Westminster has confirmed its automatic EU Qualifications Welcome Award for September 2027 and September 2028 entry.
Your first decision is whether you need full funding or can afford London with a tuition reduction. Chevening supports living costs as well as study; Westminster’s Excellence and EU qualification awards reduce fees. Their intake dates and application routes are different.

Which University of Westminster scholarships are open now?
The current list contains three international funding routes and two additional scholarships with restricted UK eligibility. The automatic undergraduate award has no separate scholarship application window.
| Award and intake | Financial support | Who can use it? | Current deadline or route |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Postgraduate Excellence Award — January 2027 | £3,000 for a one-year master’s; £5,000 for the two-year Master’s with Integrated Professional Year Experience | Overseas-fee applicants holding an eligible full-time master’s offer | 30 November 2026; separate application |
| Chevening Scholarship — 2027–28 | Tuition, monthly living allowance, eligible travel, visa and specified allowances | Applicants meeting Chevening citizenship, residence, degree and experience rules | 6 October 2026, 11:00 UTC; Chevening application |
| EU Qualifications Welcome Award — September 2027 or September 2028 | £4,500 tuition reduction in the first year only | Overseas-fee Foundation or first-year entrants admitted solely on eligible EU qualifications | Automatic assessment after grades are received |
| Postgraduate Sanctuary Scholarship — January 2027 | Full tuition and £1,000 monthly for up to 12 months; two awards | UK residents with specified asylum-related immigration statuses | 2 November 2026, 5pm UK time |
| Home Postgraduate Part Fee Scholarship — January 2027 | £2,000 tuition award, first year only | Home-fee master’s offer holders; full-time or part-time | 2 November 2026, 5pm UK time |
The Sanctuary and Home awards are included because they are open for January 2027 admission, but applicants applying from abroad should check their residence and fee classification before considering them.
Which Westminster eligibility rules could change your choice?
The January Excellence Award requires at least a UK-equivalent Good 2:1 honours degree, while Chevening also requires substantial experience after undergraduate study.
Westminster excludes doctoral, online, distance-learning, postgraduate certificate or diploma and professional courses such as RIBA Part III from the Excellence Award. Applicants eligible for another fee discount, including alumni or partner discounts, are also excluded. Crucially, the award cannot pay the £5,500 deposit required to secure your CAS.
For Chevening, you need citizenship of an eligible country or territory, at least 2,800 work hours acquired after undergraduate study over at least two years, three eligible UK course choices and a commitment to return to your country of award for two years. Undergraduate studies must have finished at least two years before the application deadline. UK residents are generally ineligible; ODA-country awards have additional residence rules. Read our Chevening 2027–2028 application guide before choosing Westminster courses.
For Sanctuary funding, eligible statuses are UK asylum seeker, discretionary leave following an asylum application, or limited leave following an asylum application. Existing master’s holders and applicants eligible for taught postgraduate Student Finance loans are excluded. The Home award requires a 2:1 degree and excludes applicants who already hold a postgraduate degree.
What is confirmed for Westminster undergraduate entry in 2027 or 2028?
The £4,500 EU Qualifications Welcome Award is confirmed for both September intakes, but eligibility follows your qualification rather than your passport. An eligible EU qualification earned outside Europe can qualify. The International Baccalaureate Diploma, mixed EU/non-EU entry qualifications and entry into levels 5 or 6 do not qualify.
The university checks eligibility at confirmation; the reduced fee appears on your CAS rather than your offer letter. Recipients cannot apply for a second Westminster scholarship, and later years carry full tuition fees.
Westminster’s September 2026 undergraduate and postgraduate Excellence awards are closed. No verified open 2027–28 call was found for the older GREAT, Women in STEM, Aziz Foundation, International School or Sporting Excellence awards. Some health and life sciences course pages mention the Serum Institute scholarship, but a current 2027–28 application window could not be verified; it should not be advertised as open.
The Unite Foundation’s 2027–28 accommodation scholarship opens on 1 January 2027, so it is not open yet. Its published eligibility includes Home-fee status, care experience or estrangement, and applicants aged 25 or under pursuing their first undergraduate degree.
Can Westminster scholarship applicants apply without IELTS?
IELTS is one accepted route, but Westminster does not offer a blanket English-language waiver to scholarship applicants. Undergraduate courses usually require IELTS 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each component; some require more. Master’s applicants must use their individual course’s overall and component requirements.
Westminster accepts alternative tests and specified qualifications, and recognises defined exemptions based on previous study. A generic Medium of Instruction letter is accepted only within its stated exemption conditions. Scholarship eligibility therefore does not, by itself, establish English eligibility.
How do you apply for Westminster funding before the correct deadline?
Get a course offer before applying for Westminster’s January scholarships; Chevening has a separate application and later university-offer deadline.
- Choose your intake and course. Follow Westminster’s postgraduate application instructions, then use the course-page Apply button. Prepare qualifications, transcripts, a personal statement, referee details, English evidence and your passport where required. Check course-specific charges and requirements.
- Submit the correct Westminster scholarship application. After receiving your offer, use the relevant award’s Apply now link on the official scholarship directory. Sanctuary applicants must return the completed form and required evidence as PDF attachments to the address specified on its page.
- Use Chevening’s own portal for autumn 2027 funding. Apply through your country or territory page on Chevening’s official application website. Choose three eligible courses; you do not need a university offer when submitting the initial scholarship form.
- For the undergraduate EU award, apply for admission. Use UCAS and Westminster institution code W50. No separate award form is required; provide the qualification evidence needed for automatic assessment.
- Complete admission and funding conditions separately. Budget for remaining tuition and living costs where your award is partial. Meet any English, deposit and CAS requirements by the university’s deadlines.
Application deadlines, checked 2 October 2026: The last date to apply for Chevening Scholarships 2027–28 is 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC (4pm in Pakistan); successful interviewees must submit a qualifying unconditional university offer by 8 July 2027 at 17:00 BST. Westminster’s January 2027 International Postgraduate Excellence Award closes on 30 November 2026, but its international taught postgraduate admission deadline is earlier, on 20 November 2026, with conditions and deposit due by 11 December 2026. The Sanctuary and Home Postgraduate Part Fee Scholarships close on 2 November 2026 at 5pm UK time; applicants need their course offers before applying. No separate scholarship deadline is published for the automatic EU Qualifications Welcome Award. Scholarship dates for other September 2027 or January 2028 Westminster awards have not been verified as open.
