University of Hong Kong Summer Research Scholarship 2025
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is excited to announce the Summer Research Programme 2025, a 10-week intensive research training experience designed for elite students worldwide. Applications open on January 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM (HKT) and close on February 3, 2025, at 5:00 PM (HKT). This Programme offers students a unique chance to engage in cutting-edge research while networking with top academics in one of Asia’s leading universities.
Programme Benefits
One-to-One Mentorship
Participants will work under the direct guidance of a distinguished professor, carefully matched to their research interests. This mentorship ensures a personalized research experience and valuable professional growth.
Scholarships and Financial Support
A scholarship of HK$10,000 will be awarded upon successful completion of the Programme. Additionally, financial support is available for airfare (up to HK$5,000) and university accommodation (up to HK$5,000) on a reimbursement basis. Students residing in Hong Kong are eligible only for accommodation reimbursement.
Recognition and Future Opportunities
Top performers will be eligible for special prizes and awards. Moreover, exceptional participants may receive a conditional offer for the prestigious HKU Presidential PhD Scholarship, valued at up to HK$433,300 (US$55,560) in the first year.
Who Should Apply?
The Programme seeks outstanding students in their third or fourth year of undergraduate studies with a CGPA of 3.6 or above, as well as exceptional Master’s degree students holding a First Class Honours Bachelor’s degree. Selection criteria include:
- Academic excellence
- Interest in research postgraduate studies
- Relevant research experience
- High English proficiency
Application Process
Key Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A personal statement (300-500 words) explaining their motivation, goals, and Programme interest.
- A research interest summary (100-200 words).
- Supporting documents, including academic transcripts, CV, a passport-sized photo, and English proficiency test results (if applicable).
The non-refundable application fee is HK$300, and applications must be submitted online during the designated period.

- January 2 – February 3, 2025: Application window
- February to mid-March 2025: Selection process
- Mid-March 2025: Announcement of results
- June 2 – August 8, 2025: Programme period
Participants may attend the first two weeks online but must join in person starting from June 16, 2025.
