National Scholarship 2026 at University of Toronto Canada

The University of Toronto (U of T) has announced the opening of applications for its prestigious National Scholarship Program 2026, the institution’s flagship undergraduate award recognizing Canada’s brightest students.

Canada’s Undergraduate Scholarship

The National Scholarship Program is designed to celebrate original thinkers, community leaders, and top academic achievers from across the country. It provides recipients with a full four-year scholarship, covering tuition, incidental, and residence fees at U of T. Recognized as the university’s largest scholarship initiative for Canadian students, it supports the next generation of scholars in pursuing excellence at one of the world’s leading institutions.

Scholarship Value

The award value of the National Scholarship Program is highly significant. National Scholars are granted full coverage of tuition, incidental, and residence fees for up to four years of study at the University of Toronto, ensuring that they can pursue their academic goals without financial burden. In addition, runners-up are recognized as Arbor Scholars, receiving $7,500 in their first year and $1,500 annually for the remaining three years, offering substantial financial support throughout their undergraduate journey.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the 2026 session, applicants must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person.
  • Be in their final year of secondary school in Canada or their first year of CEGEP.
  • Intend to begin university studies in Fall 2026 (gap year permitted).
  • Receive a nomination from their high school for the National Book Award.

Application and Nomination Process

  • September 1 – October 10, 2025: Canadian high schools may nominate one student through the National Book Award program.
  • By October 17, 2025: Nominated students must apply for admission to at least one U of T undergraduate program.
  • By October 31, 2025: Applicants must submit their National Scholarship Program application online.
  • By November 7, 2025: Referees must submit a confidential recommendation letter to support the student’s application.

Selection and Interviews

Approximately 25 finalists will be shortlisted and invited for virtual interviews between December 2025 and February 2026. From this pool, a select number of students will be named National Scholars.
