Doctoral Scholarships – His Majesty the King’s Scholarships

Eligibility Overview for Master’s and PhD Applicants

These scholarships are aimed at academically outstanding candidates with strong educational backgrounds and the motivation to contribute to Asia’s development through advanced study.

  • PhD applicants must hold both a 4-year Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in a relevant field from accredited institutions, typically with a minimum GPA of 3.5 or equivalent in both degrees. Applicants are required to submit two academic recommendation letters, a well-structured research proposal, and proof of English proficiency such as IELTS 6.0 (overall and writing bands) or AIT EET ≥ 6.0. Doctoral scholarships are available for programs under the School of Engineering and Technology (SET) and the School of Environment, Resources, and Development (SERD). Priority is given to candidates from Bhutan, Laos PDR, Timor-Leste, ASEAN countries, and other Asian nations.

  • Master’s applicants under His Majesty the King’s Scholarships must be excellent Bachelor’s graduates from any Asian country, applying to eligible programs offered by SET or the School of Management (SOM).

  • Her Majesty the Queen’s Scholarships are intended for outstanding Bachelor’s graduates from Asia applying to environment-related Master’s programs under SERD.

  • Loom Nam Khong Pijai (GMS) Scholarships are open to applicants from the Greater Mekong Sub-region, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, and Southern China (Yunnan and Guangxi). Applicants must usually have a Bachelor’s GPA of 3.5 or equivalent, meet English proficiency requirements, and apply to Master’s programs related to infrastructure development, energy technology, oil and gas or natural resources, and environmental engineering and management.
