Montpellier Paul-Valéry University France Scholarship 2027: Master’s and PhD Admissions Open
France Excellence Eiffel · 2027 campaign
The Montpellier Paul-Valéry University Eiffel Scholarship 2027 call is open for international master’s and PhD applicants seeking study in France. Through the French government’s France Excellence Eiffel programme, selected students receive living support and services that help make an eligible postgraduate course more affordable.
At Montpellier, your first decision is academic: which course or research team can support your application? Master’s candidates submit a university pre-application; doctoral candidates begin with a prospective supervisor. That distinction matters because a strong dossier must reach the right people before the university can nominate you. Here is how to build that dossier around your study plans.
Your Montpellier Eiffel starting point

01Can Montpellier support your Eiffel study plans?
You need an eligible Montpellier programme and the right personal profile. Eiffel covers seven national fields: biology/health, ecological transition, mathematics/digital sciences, engineering, history/French language/civilisation, law/political science, and economics/management. These categories do not mean Montpellier offers every subject.
For doctoral study, explore ED58, Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Civilisations, or ED60, Territories, Time, Societies and Development. I would start with the course content or research team, then explain how its work develops your existing academic interests.
- Master’s: maximum age 29, born after 31 March 1997; applicants currently studying in France are ineligible.
- PhD: maximum age 35, born after 31 March 1991; students in France may apply, with priority given to those studying abroad.
- Study format: distance learning and apprenticeship/professionalisation-contract courses are excluded.
These rules establish eligibility; academic excellence and, for PhDs, research innovation shape selection. Our Eiffel eligibility and nomination guide explains the wider scheme.
02What would Eiffel pay for?
Master’s recipients receive €1,200 monthly, for up to 24 months from M1 or 12 months from M2. Doctoral funding lasts 12, 18 or 36 months depending on the research arrangement; the 36-month route is restricted to eligible first-year newcomers without current French enrolment or a cotutelle arrangement, and excludes previous Eiffel master’s recipients.
PhD amount: the regulations linked by Montpellier specify €2,000 monthly, while some Campus France summaries show €2,100. Obtain written confirmation before budgeting at the higher amount.
Support also includes eligible travel, insurance, accommodation-search assistance and cultural activities. Housing assistance does not mean free rent. Eiffel does not pay training fees; French-government scholars qualify for registration-fee exemptions for eligible national diplomas at covered public institutions.
Your budget must also respect award compatibility: Eiffel cannot be combined with another French-government, Erasmus+ or Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie scholarship.
03Prepare evidence the university can assess
Build the academic dossier first, then add the evidence required by your route. This keeps doctoral arrangements from being mistaken for master’s requirements.
| Stage | Evidence to prepare |
|---|---|
| Master’s Pre-application |
ID, CV of up to two pages, diplomas and certified results/ranking, three years’ transcripts, applicable language proof, 1–2-page career plan and signed candidate commitment. Diploma translations must be French or English. |
| PhD After preselection |
Core documents plus a thesis proposal of up to five pages, expert assessment and two-page expert CV, funding plan, required institutional opinions, and research dissertation or summary. Add joint-supervision documentation for 12/18-month routes. |
CVs and thesis proposals may be French or English; the career plan should be French, or English if necessary. My recommendation is to connect previous study, the chosen programme and your intended career in that plan. Use our Eiffel document checklist to organise preparation.
04Follow Montpellier’s application route
Apply through Montpellier; the university submits selected nominations to Campus France.
- Read the Montpellier 2027 instructions and national application guide. Choose an eligible course using the university catalogue; follow its admission and language requirements alongside Eiffel preparation.
- Review the funding regulations and complete the candidate commitment. The university notice specifies no Eiffel application charge; this does not establish that every admission procedure is free.
- Master’s: submit the complete 2027 master’s request form with uploads. Incomplete, late or emailed applications are not examined.
- PhD: present your project to a prospective supervisor. The supervisor must communicate support to [email protected]. Preselected candidates receive the online dossier. Arrange the external expert early: a professor, research director or researcher with HDR/equivalent in the relevant field. The expert must be outside the host and your home institution, outside your home country, of a different nationality, and without joint work/publications with the proposed supervisor or host research-unit members. Include all required institutional opinions.
- Complete any requested follow-up. Montpellier’s DRIF forwards supported dossiers for national selection; university preselection is not a scholarship award.
05Questions before you submit
Can two universities nominate me?
No. Multiple institutional submissions lead to rejection. You may explore alternatives in our Eiffel university guide, but arrange only one final nomination.
Does Eiffel waive IELTS?
There is no universal IELTS waiver. Your language level must meet the chosen programme’s requirements; permission to write application documents in English does not establish English-medium teaching.
Can I reapply after national rejection?
A previously unsuccessful national Eiffel application cannot be resubmitted at the same level, even through another university or subject. Previous recipients cannot receive Eiffel again at the same level either. University-only preselection decisions are a different stage.
06Montpellier Eiffel 2027 deadlines
The Montpellier Paul-Valéry University Eiffel campaign opened on 7 October 2026. The last date to submit the master’s pre-application is 1 November 2026.
For PhD applicants, supervisor support must reach the university by 2 November 2026; the complete doctoral dossier is due by 29 November 2026. No closing hour is specified for these university deadlines; use Montpellier local time, CET (UTC+1).
Master’s preselection is scheduled for early December, followed by dossier preparation. Campus France’s institutional deadline is 6 January 2027, with national results expected during the week of 12 April 2027.
Choose your programme, assemble the evidence for your route and submit your form or secure supervisor support before the relevant university deadline.
