Université Paris-Saclay Eiffel Scholarship 2027–2028: MS and Joint PhD Applications Open

The France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship 2027–2028 at Université Paris-Saclay is open for international master’s and doctoral applicants in France. The university advertises monthly support of €1,200 for master’s recipients and €2,100 for doctoral recipients, alongside additional services. Its doctoral route this year supports international joint-doctorate projects for 12–18 months only.

Your first application step depends on your degree: master’s candidates approach the programme coordinator, while doctoral candidates apply through ADUM with a cotutelle agreement or evidence that one is being established. This guide helps you choose the viable route, assemble the right evidence and keep scholarship selection separate from admission.

Official information checked2 November 2026; university call, doctoral-agreement guidance and Campus France documents reviewed.

01 How much study can Paris-Saclay Eiffel fund?

Master’s support follows your entry year; doctoral support funds part of an international joint PhD. A cotutelle is a formal arrangement between French and overseas institutions for joint supervision and doctoral qualification. Paris-Saclay is not offering the national 36-month Eiffel PhD route in this campaign.

Paris-Saclay route Maximum Eiffel period Funding decision
Master 1 24 months Plan for the full two-year degree, subject to scholarship rules.
Master 2 12 months Support concerns the second master’s year.
Cotutelle PhD, year 1 or 2 18 months Show how the rest of the doctorate will be financed.
Cotutelle PhD, year 2 or 3 12 months The remaining doctoral period needs other compatible support.

Eiffel includes travel, insurance and housing-search services, but does not pay tuition invoices or promise free rent. Eligible national-degree registration fees at qualifying public institutions are exempt under French Government Scholarship rules; other programme charges need separate consideration.

Paris-Saclay and Campus France’s overview publish €2,100 monthly for PhD recipients, while the downloadable English regulations still state €2,000. Obtain confirmation of the applicable rate before relying on the higher amount. I would build the doctoral funding plan month by month, covering both countries and periods outside Eiffel support.

02 Who meets Paris-Saclay’s Eiffel eligibility rules?

You must satisfy Eiffel’s nationality, age and application-history conditions as well as your chosen programme’s academic requirements. Master’s applicants must have been born after 31 March 1997; doctoral applicants after 31 March 1991. French nationality, including dual nationality, is disqualifying.

Students currently studying in France are excluded from the master’s component. Doctoral applicants in France can qualify, although students studying abroad receive priority. A previous unsuccessful application at the same Eiffel level cannot be resubmitted, and previous recipients cannot receive another award at that same level.

Eligible fields span biology/health, ecological transition, mathematics/digital technology, engineering sciences, law/political science, economics/management, and French history/language/civilisation. Paris-Saclay restricts that last category to programmes centred on French language. Polytech Paris-Saclay engineering curricula are excluded from this Eiffel call. Apprenticeship programmes are also incompatible with Eiffel.

There is no scholarship-wide IELTS exemption. The selected degree determines language requirements; French-taught programmes require French-level evidence where French is not the language used in your home country or institution.

03 What evidence should you prepare for each degree level?

Prepare an academic case for the master’s coordinator, or a documented research-and-funding partnership for a cotutelle PhD. The required evidence differs substantially.

  • Master’s package: Identity document; one-to-two-page French/English CV with education and relevant work dates; degree certificates; official class-ranking evidence; all higher-education transcripts; applicable French-language evidence; and a one-to-two-page career project. An external professional recommendation may support the career project.
  • Doctoral package: Identity document; signed cotutelle agreement or evidence of an agreement in progress; full-thesis funding plan; one-to-two-page CV; current-enrolment certificate if studying; three years of transcripts; degrees; one-to-two-page motivation/career project; one-to-five-page thesis proposal and progress statement; and an independent scientific expert’s assessment. Merge documents into one PDF per category.
  • Doctoral documents after preselection: Research-language evidence where required; assessments from the Paris-Saclay supervisor, host laboratory director and doctoral-school director; and the scientific expert’s CV, maximum two pages. The national final dossier also requires the signed candidate declaration.

Choose the doctoral expert carefully. Campus France requires a suitably qualified specialist outside the submitting institution, with no joint work/publications with the proposed supervisor or research-unit members. The expert must also be outside your originating institution and country and must not share your nationality.

My recommendation is to make the career project explain the link between your preparation, the specific programme and your next professional step. The university’s own examples come first; our motivation-letter guidance is an optional drafting aid.

04 How do you apply for Paris-Saclay’s Eiffel nomination?

Paris-Saclay accepts, supports and submits the national nomination. Follow the branch that matches your degree.

  1. Read the current rules. Use the Paris-Saclay Eiffel call with the Campus France 2027 application guide. The benefits overview and downloadable regulations document the funding conditions and doctoral-rate discrepancy.
  2. Master’s: contact the programme coordinator. Find the degree in the master’s catalogue and use the coordinator contact on its programme page. Explain your study level, institution/country, grades, class rank, relevant experience and plans, and provide the requested evidence before the internal cutoff.
  3. PhD: establish the cotutelle and apply through ADUM. Follow the international cotutelle procedure with your supervisor and doctoral school. New agreement setup requires applicants to be no further than their first doctoral year; later-year applicants should already have the relevant arrangement. Submit through ADUM’s Paris-Saclay portal under the Eiffel programme for foreign doctoral candidates. Use the university’s funding-plan example, CV example and career-project example. Replace the funding template’s illustrative old dates and amounts with your own confirmed figures.
  4. Respond to preselection requests. If supported, complete the additional evidence and declarations with Paris-Saclay. Only one final nomination can proceed to Campus France.
  5. Complete ordinary admission separately. Master’s candidates must follow the university’s normal application procedure from February 2027, whether or not preselected for Eiffel. Use the international master’s admission guidance and the programme’s own calendar; the correct platform depends on your situation.

05 Which mistakes could undermine your Paris-Saclay application?

Do not assume that national Eiffel options are all available at Paris-Saclay. This doctoral campaign requires a cotutelle project and funds only 12–18 months. A standard co-supervision arrangement alone does not meet the stated local restriction. Multiple final institutional nominations, incompatible scholarship combinations, or missing the separate degree-admission procedure can also defeat your plans.

06 Paris-Saclay Eiffel questions before submission

Must my cotutelle agreement already be signed?

Not necessarily. The call accepts a signed agreement or documents establishing that the cotutelle project is in progress. Paris-Saclay doctoral-school admission and a supervisor-initiated agreement request remain part of setting up the arrangement.

Can a former Eiffel master’s recipient apply for doctoral funding?

Yes, the national guide permits a first doctoral application after an Eiffel master’s award for the 12- or 18-month routes. You must still meet Paris-Saclay’s cotutelle restriction and all other eligibility rules; a previous doctoral award is different.

Does Paris-Saclay preselection confirm my scholarship?

No. The internal decision determines which candidates the university supports for national selection. Wait for the final Campus France outcome and continue the separate admission process in the meantime.

07 When are Paris-Saclay’s Eiffel deadlines and results?

The last date to apply for Paris-Saclay’s 2027–2028 Eiffel doctoral nomination is 6 November 2026; the master’s internal deadline is 26 November 2026. Master’s applicants are instructed to contact their programme coordinator before 26 November. Both calls opened on 1 October 2026. No closing hour is specified; November dates use Paris local time, CET (UTC+1).

Master’s internal results are scheduled for 7 December 2026; doctoral internal results by 10 December 2026. Campus France’s institutional submission deadline is 6 January 2027, and national results are expected during the week of 12 April 2027. The January date is for university nominations and does not replace either Paris-Saclay applicant deadline.
