Wenzhou University’s Chinese Government Scholarship 2027: How to Apply Guide
Wenzhou University’s Chinese Government Scholarship–High-Level Postgraduate Program 2027 is open for international applicants seeking a funded master’s or PhD in China. The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, medical insurance and a monthly living allowance. Its 16 master’s programmes and Chemistry doctorate offer routes into economics, education, engineering, sciences and the arts.
Your first decision is the programme and its teaching language: most listed degrees are taught in English, while three master’s options require Chinese. WZU also assesses your university application before recommending you to CSC. Can a previous English-taught degree replace IELTS, and when should you complete the CSC form? This guide walks through those decisions, the funding and the documents to prepare.
Open for 2027 admission. See the application deadline and degree-completion dates.
Non-Chinese applicants; 16 master’s programmes and one Chemistry PhD.
Tuition, accommodation, insurance and CNY 3,000 monthly for master’s or CNY 3,500 for doctoral recipients.
IELTS 6.0+ or TOEFL 70+ for English-taught study; approved language-test exemptions are available.
WZU application → university review → pre-admission → CSC Type B submission.

01 Which Wenzhou University degrees are available in 2027?
The 2027 brochure lists 13 English-taught master’s programmes, three Chinese-taught master’s programmes and an English-taught Chemistry PhD. Match your academic interests to the exact entry below; the language choice determines your supporting evidence.
| Study route | Available programmes | Advertised funding term |
|---|---|---|
| Master’s — English | Applied Economics; Applied Psychology; Modern Educational Technology; English Teaching; Translation; Materials Science and Engineering; Biology; Resources and Environment; Electrical Engineering; Computer Science and Technology; Civil and Hydraulic Engineering; Music; Overseas Chinese Studies. | 3 years; CNY 3,000 monthly stipend. |
| Master’s — Chinese | Chinese Language and Literature; Mechanical Engineering; International Chinese Language Education. | 3 years; CNY 3,000 monthly stipend. |
| PhD — English | Chemistry. | 4 years; CNY 3,500 monthly stipend. |
My recommendation is to settle the programme and teaching language before writing your study plan. Mechanical Engineering, for example, is explicitly Chinese-taught in this call; an English score alone would not establish its language eligibility.

02 What does the Wenzhou CSC Scholarship cover?
Successful scholarship recipients receive a tuition waiver, free dormitory accommodation or an accommodation subsidy, and the monthly stipend shown above. Comprehensive medical insurance is funded at CNY 800 per person per year. The insurance figure is coverage funding, rather than an extra cash allowance.
International flights and visa costs are not listed among the brochure’s covered benefits, so allow for them in your own budget. The accommodation-subsidy amount and conditions are not specified in these six pages.

03 Who qualifies, and can you apply without IELTS?
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health, with excellent academic performance and the appropriate previous degree. The brochure gives these rules:
- Master’s applicants: Hold a bachelor’s degree and generally be aged 35 or younger.
- Doctoral applicants: Hold a master’s degree and generally be aged 40 or younger.
- Chinese-taught programmes: HSK Level 5 with a score of at least 180.
- English-taught programmes: TOEFL 70+ or IELTS 6.0+, as stated in the 2027 brochure.
IELTS is not compulsory for every applicant. WZU accepts an approved medium-of-instruction certificate in the relevant teaching language as a basis for a test-score exemption. Proving native-English status can also exempt an applicant from English-test scores. Approval matters: previous English-medium study is evidence to submit, rather than an exemption to assume.

04 What belongs in your Wenzhou scholarship application?
Prepare the nine document categories listed in WZU’s 2027 brochure. Certificates and attestations must be originals or notarized copies in Chinese or English; submit original colour scans.
- Identity and qualifications: Passport information page, with validity beyond September 2027, and degree certificates. Observe the graduation cutoff in the final timeline.
- Academic background: Academic transcripts and your résumé.
- Personal statement and study plan: More than 1,000 words, developed around your academic background and proposed study.
- Language evidence: The relevant proficiency certificate or evidence supporting an approved exemption.
- Academic recommendations: Two recommendation letters in Chinese or English.
- Health and character records: Non-criminal-record certificate and Foreigner Physical Examination Form.
I would prioritise the study plan and recommendation letters: explain what you want to study, what preparation you already have and how the chosen programme fits that direction. If your final degree certificate is still pending, obtain WZU’s instructions on acceptable interim evidence before submitting.

05 How do you apply for the Wenzhou CSC Scholarship 2027?
Apply to Wenzhou University first; the CSC application follows WZU’s review and pre-admission recommendation. The brochure sets out five stages:
- Submit the WZU application. Register through the Wenzhou University international application system. Select the Chinese Government Scholarship programme, choose your degree and upload your documents.
- Complete university review. WZU checks qualifications and documents and conducts an interview. Prepare to discuss the academic direction presented in your application.
- Receive WZU pre-admission. The university issues pre-admission letters to recommended applicants. Read the next-stage instructions before completing your CSC submission.
- Submit the CSC application. Use the Chinese Government Scholarship application system, select Program Category B and enter Agency Number 10351. Our CSC agency-number guide explains how to match the code to the university displayed.
- Await final admission. WZU notifies applicants following CSC’s final review. Treat the resulting notification as the outcome of the scholarship process.
The brochure does not state an application-fee amount. Follow WZU’s payment instructions and do not assume a fee exemption.

06 Which application mistakes could derail your WZU submission?
Match the exact programme, language evidence and submission stage before sending your file. These are the practical traps in the current brochure:
- Assuming every programme is English-taught. Three master’s programmes require Chinese; use their advertised language when preparing your evidence.
- Treating a medium-of-instruction letter as automatic approval. Submit it for WZU’s exemption assessment.
- Treating the CSC form as your first completed application. WZU’s sequence starts with the university portal and moves to CSC after pre-admission.

07 What else should Wenzhou CSC applicants know?
Do you need a supervisor’s acceptance letter before applying?
An advance supervisor acceptance letter is not listed in the 2027 brochure’s document checklist. WZU issues its own pre-admission letters after university review; follow any additional programme instructions communicated by Admissions.
Can you apply for a PhD outside Chemistry under this call?
The brochure lists Chemistry as its only doctoral programme. The other advertised subjects belong to the master’s catalogue, so a master’s listing does not establish that the same subject has a funded PhD place.
Does WZU pre-admission guarantee the CSC scholarship?
No. Pre-admission identifies applicants WZU recommends for the next stage. You must still complete the CSC submission, and WZU communicates final admission following CSC’s review.

08 When is the Wenzhou CSC Scholarship 2027 deadline?
The last date to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship–High-Level Postgraduate Program 2027 offered by Wenzhou University is 31 December 2026. This is the deadline printed in WZU’s 2027 scholarship brochure.
Degree completion: The brochure requires graduation before 31 August 2027. Your passport must remain valid beyond September 2027.
Later CSC submission: Follow WZU’s instructions after pre-admission. The six-page brochure does not give a separate CSC cutoff or a closing hour for the university deadline, so complete the WZU stage early.
Start with three moves: select your exact programme, arrange your referees and draft the combined personal statement and study plan. Those preparations give you a coherent WZU application to submit before the deadline.
