China Government Scholarships 2027-2028

Guangxi Normal University Scholarships 2027 Open: China Scholarship Council Project

Guangxi Normal University’s Chinese Government Scholarship–High Level Postgraduate Program 2027–2028 is inviting international master’s and PhD applications in China, with tuition, university accommodation, insurance and a monthly stipend. Its published options include education, computing, environmental subjects and Chinese studies, alongside selected English-taught science and technology degrees.

The key is to secure GXNU pre-admission before finishing the scholarship application. That means preparing for a university interview and paying an application fee while there is still time to complete CSC’s system. Which subjects are eligible, and can you apply without HSK? Here is the route through those decisions.

GXNU pre-admission comes before the scholarship submission

01Which GXNU subjects and teaching languages are available?

GXNU offers both master’s and doctoral routes, but this call excludes the Master of International Chinese Language Education and foreign-language/literature programmes such as English, Japanese and Korean Studies. The current official brochure gives the following useful programme choices:

Study area Advertised routes Teaching language
Education and psychology Master’s: education, psychology, education management, educational technology, mental-health education, preschool education, applied psychology and education economics/management. PhD: education specialisms and psychology. Chinese
Computing and AI Master’s: Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence. PhD: Software Engineering. AI master’s: English; listed computing/software routes: Chinese
Physics and chemistry Physics master’s and PhD; Chemistry PhD. English
Environment, mathematics and ecology Master’s: environmental science/engineering, resources/environment, geography teaching, statistics, computing mathematics, mathematics/applied mathematics and ecology. Chinese
Law, Chinese studies and other fields Master’s: law/Juris Master, Chinese Language and Literature, Marxist Theory. PhD: Chinese Philology, Chinese Minority Languages and Literatures, Marxism-related subjects, Physical Education and Sport Science. Chinese

The listed master’s courses generally last three years, with Chinese Language and Literature listed for two. Doctoral courses run three or four years. I would shortlist by teaching language first: the English-language brochure is not evidence that every degree is taught in English.

02What will GXNU fund—and who can apply?

The award covers tuition, on-campus accommodation and comprehensive medical insurance, with RMB 3,000 monthly for master’s students or RMB 3,500 for doctoral students. Recipients must live in university dormitories; airfare and dependent support are not advertised. The RMB 400 application fee remains a separate preparation cost.

  • Nationality and status: non-Chinese citizens with valid foreign passports. This call is only for new applicants; international students already studying in China are ineligible.
  • Degree and age: bachelor’s degree and under 35 for master’s; master’s degree and under 40 for doctoral study, following the brochure’s English eligibility wording.
  • Former Chinese citizens: GXNU specifies at least four years holding foreign passport/nationality documentation and over two years’ actual overseas residence within the latest four-year period ending 30 April of the admission year. Nine months abroad in a calendar year counts as one year.
  • Chinese-taught programmes: HSK 4 is generally required. Applicants below the requirement may apply for one year of preparatory Chinese study, then must pass the required HSK level to progress and retain scholarship eligibility.

The brochure allows an HSK upload to be omitted if unavailable, but that does not remove the language condition. For the advertised English-taught degrees, it gives no IELTS/TOEFL minimum or English-medium waiver policy. Obtain the programme’s accepted English evidence from [email protected] before paying; a blanket “No IELTS required” claim would be unsupported.

03How do you move from GXNU pre-admission to CSC?

Apply to GXNU first, pass its academic review and interview, then upload the resulting pre-admission notice in the CSC application. The sequence is confirmed in GXNU’s 2027–2028 scholarship announcement and embedded guide.

  1. Start the university application. Register at the GXNU online application portal, choose your programme, pay RMB 400 and upload the requested evidence. Keep the payment certificate for your application folder.
  2. Complete GXNU’s assessment. The relevant faculty/school reviews your documents and conducts a professional interview. Successful applicants receive a GXNU Pre-admission Notice.
  3. Submit the scholarship application. Use the Chinese Government Scholarship application system and upload the GXNU pre-admission notice with the required records. GXNU’s agency number is 10602, as published on its official university FAQ; this university scholarship route uses Type B.
  4. Complete both online records by the cutoff. The brochure requires documents through both systems and says no postal hard-copy application is needed. Pre-admission supports nomination; the final scholarship/admission result remains subject to CSC’s decision.

My recommendation is to work backwards from the CSC cutoff: reserve time for GXNU’s interview and pre-admission notice instead of treating the deadline as the day to begin the university application.

04Which documents must be ready for GXNU and CSC?

GXNU lists the following evidence for the online applications. Prepare the academic folder first, adding the GXNU pre-admission notice after the university assessment:

  • CSC application form in Chinese or English; passport valid beyond September 2027; academic transcripts from bachelor’s level onward; notarized highest degree certificate.
  • Language evidence, including HSK where available for Chinese-taught study; GXNU Pre-admission Notice for the scholarship stage.
  • Study/research plan of at least 1,000 words in Chinese or English; doctoral plans signed by the prospective Chinese supervisor.
  • Two recommendations in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors, on official letterhead with referee contact details.
  • Non-criminal record certificate; completed Foreigner Physical Examination Form with all examination items, photograph, required seals and doctor/hospital signatures; fee-payment certificate.

Other-language records require notarised Chinese or English translations. The CSC-authored national checklist also sets six-month validity expectations for medical and police records. Use the Chinese scholarship study-plan guide to develop a proposal tied to your chosen GXNU department, while keeping the university’s length and doctoral-signature requirements.

05What could make an otherwise strong GXNU application fail?

The biggest traps are choosing an excluded course, overlooking current-enrolment restrictions or leaving pre-admission too late.

Check before paying: students already studying in China cannot use this call, and the excluded language programmes cannot be funded through it. A missing HSK report is not a permanent language waiver: unsuccessful progression after preparatory Chinese study ends scholarship eligibility. Recipients cannot simultaneously hold other Chinese government or host-university scholarships and must live in the university dormitories.

06GXNU questions that need a precise answer

Is this scholarship restricted to ASEAN nationals?

No ASEAN-only restriction appears in this High Level Postgraduate call; it is for eligible non-Chinese applicants. GXNU advertises separate ASEAN scholarships, whose nationality conditions should not be transferred to this programme.

Do I need a separate professor acceptance letter?

The brochure requires GXNU’s institutional pre-admission notice rather than listing a separate supervisor acceptance letter for everyone. Doctoral applicants do need their prospective Chinese supervisor’s signature on the research plan.

Can I submit Type B applications to GXNU and another university?

CSC’s published instructions allow only one Type B application per academic year. Compare programme fit before choosing your Type B university; two university enquiries do not authorise two CSC Type B submissions.

07When must the GXNU scholarship application be finished?

The last date to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship–High Level Postgraduate Program 2027–2028 offered by Guangxi Normal University is 31 January 2027, Beijing time (UTC+8). The brochure gives no closing hour or separate earlier pre-admission cutoff. Complete the university review and obtain the required notice early enough to finish the CSC submission by this date.

GXNU’s announcement was published on 20 October 2026. Its brochure does not publish a final-results calendar, so follow the official application systems for the award decision rather than relying on dates from an older admissions cycle.
