Peking University Opens CSC-Beijing Government Scholarships 2027 Admissions for International Students
Peking University has opened its general international graduate applications for 2027, offering a new starting point for students hoping to take their studies further in China. Its master’s and PhD prospectus also names three scholarship routes that could help with the cost of studying there.
Your interests might lie in international affairs, public policy, computing, materials or the humanities. PKU brings those subjects into one broad graduate offering, including English-taught programmes. The first task is to find the course or department that fits what you want to learn.
Then comes the question that matters just as much: how would you pay for it? Below, you can compare the scholarships, see which documents to prepare and follow the application steps. Admission and scholarship decisions are separate, so the aim is to prepare for both from the beginning.
General international graduate applications open for 2027.

01 Choose the PKU programme that fits your ambitions
PKU offers master’s and doctoral study across the sciences, engineering, social sciences, management and humanities. English-taught choices include public administration, public policy, international affairs, Chinese law, China studies, management, computing and materials.
For a master’s, you normally need a bachelor’s degree; for a PhD, a master’s degree. Applicants with a bachelor’s may also apply directly for doctoral programmes in science and engineering. Some professional degrees have extra entry conditions.
Master’s programmes usually take two or three years. Doctoral study normally takes four or five years, while direct-entry PhDs generally take five. Choose the department, language, campus and full-time or part-time format together.
I would start with what you hope to study more deeply, then look at the department’s work. A programme becomes a stronger choice when you can explain how it builds on your previous studies or experience.
02 Which Scholarship could help you Study at Peking University?
New international students can apply for three named scholarship routes, with different combinations of tuition, housing and living support. Comparing those benefits now will help you understand what you may still need to pay.
| Scholarship | Support listed in the prospectus |
|---|---|
| Chinese Government Scholarship, Type B | Full or partial tuition waiver, free accommodation, monthly living support and medical insurance under the applicable rules. |
| Beijing Government Scholarship | A: tuition, housing, insurance and living support. B: tuition, housing and insurance. C: tuition and insurance. |
| PKU Scholarship for New International Students | Full or partial tuition waiver, living support and medical insurance. Accommodation is not listed. |
PKU has not given one stipend amount or one scholarship deadline for all these awards in this prospectus. An admission offer therefore needs to be read alongside the funding offer. Our Chinese Government Scholarship guide explains the CSC route if that is the award you want to pursue.
Some 2027 tuition rates also remain awaiting approval. I would build your budget around the actual programme fee and scholarship offer when available, especially if you receive only a partial tuition waiver.
03 What should you prepare before opening the application form?
Start with your qualifications and referees, because both involve other people. If you have already graduated, PKU requires degree authentication during the application period: CSCSE for overseas degrees, or CSSD/CHSI for mainland Chinese degrees. Expected 2027 graduates can begin with an official expected-graduation letter and supply the graduation certificate upon pre-admission.
You must be a non-Chinese citizen, healthy and without a criminal record. Former Chinese citizens must also meet PKU’s nationality-document conditions, including its requirement for passport or citizenship documents issued before 30 April 2021 and proof of cancellation of Chinese nationality.
- Academic records: Degree and graduation certificates, authentication where required, and official transcripts. Documents must meet PKU’s Chinese/English and notarized-translation requirements.
- Personal statement: Include a research plan, using 1,500 words for a master’s or 3,000 for a PhD. Prepare your résumé and Application Commitment letter too.
- Recommendations: Ask two professors, associate professors or equivalent relevant professionals. They submit through the link sent by PKU’s system.
- Passport and supporting work: Provide the ordinary-passport pages required since 30 April 2021. Your current passport must remain valid at least three months beyond enrolment. Add publication abstracts or other original achievements where applicable.
The statement is your chance to explain why this degree follows naturally from what you have already done. Our study-plan and research-plan guide can help with that explanation; use PKU’s own template and length.
For Chinese-taught study, PKU asks for HSK 6 above 200 for science or above 210 for humanities, with writing at least 65; qualifying HSK 7–9 reports are also accepted. English-taught programmes publish their own requirements. The general notice lists TOEFL iBT 5 or above on the current scale, certain older 100-plus results, GRE above 315 or other English evidence, subject to the programme’s rules. Choose the programme before booking a language test.
04 How to apply to Peking University for 2027 entry
Your application goes first to PKU for qualification checks, then to the department for academic assessment. Keep the 2027 international graduate prospectus beside you as you work through these steps.
- Choose your programme and read its instructions. Use the 2027 programme catalogue to find the subject and teaching language. English-taught master’s programmes may have their own dates and requirements.
- Prepare the statement and forms. Download PKU’s application templates. Explain your academic interests, relevant preparation and proposed research clearly. Ask your referees before entering their details.
- Complete the online application. Register at Study at PKU, upload the required documents and request the recommendations. Use colour scans; mobile-phone or camera photographs are not accepted.
- Pay the fee and finish the submission. Each programme costs CNY 800 to apply, and you may choose up to two. Complete both recommendations and pay before the deadline. The fee is non-refundable.
- Follow the department and scholarship instructions. Attend the required academic assessment and complete the relevant funding steps. The prospectus names available awards but does not give one shared scholarship form or deadline.
- Send the requested documents if pre-admitted. Download your application form and send the specified originals to PKU’s International Student Division. The notice excludes degree diplomas and recommendation letters from that mailing; original qualifications are still checked at enrolment.
Before accepting a place, compare your funding notification with the 2027 tuition schedule and any later fee announcement for your programme. That will show whether there is a remaining tuition cost to cover.
05 Give your application a complete final check
Do not submit with missing recommendations, unpaid fees or the wrong document format. PKU will not process incomplete or unpaid applications. Check the passport details carefully too, because confirmed identity information cannot be changed before enrolment.
Make a separate note of your programme deadline and scholarship instructions. Being admitted is an important achievement, but funding is secure only when the scholarship has been confirmed.
06 Questions you may still have about applying to PKU
Can I apply while finishing my degree?
Yes. If you expect to graduate in 2027, submit the official expected-graduation letter. You must provide the required qualification later and obtain your certificates before enrolment.
Does this application cover PKU’s medical graduate programmes?
No. The Health Science Center has separate guidance for admission, scholarships and accommodation. Use that guidance if you want to apply there.
Which older TOEFL results does the general notice accept?
It lists scores of 100 or above obtained from 1 September 2025 to 21 January 2026. Your English-taught programme’s own instructions still determine which language evidence you should submit.
07 Peking University’s 2027 application dates
The last date for Peking University’s general international graduate application for 2027 entry is 25 December 2026, Beijing time. The general application period runs from 26 October to 25 December 2026. English-taught master’s programmes may use different schedules.
Department assessments are scheduled between January and March 2027. Pre-admitted applicants must send the specified original documents by 31 May 2027. Admission documents are expected in late June, with enrolment in early September.
These are admission dates; follow the separate deadline for your chosen scholarship. Start by selecting a programme, arranging authentication and contacting your referees. Our 2027 China scholarship deadline guide can help you compare other universities while you prepare.
