Hainan University China Government CSC Scholarships for MS & PhD Enrollment 2027 Intake
The Chinese Government Scholarship–High-Level Graduate Program at Hainan University is accepting applications for 2027–2028 master’s and doctoral study in China. The award covers tuition, accommodation, a living allowance and medical insurance, with Chinese- and English-taught options across fields including agriculture, biology, computing, engineering, law and business.
For you, the useful starting point is the programme’s teaching language: Hainan’s English-taught lists differ between master’s and PhD study. Which subjects fit your degree, what language evidence counts, and how do the two application systems connect? This guide takes you through those decisions and the scholarship submission sequence.
01What can you study with Hainan University’s CSC Scholarship?
Hainan offers separate Chinese- and English-taught postgraduate lists, so choose your exact degree and language before preparing the application. The university identifies Crop Science as a discipline included in China’s world-class discipline construction programme, making its agricultural options particularly relevant to applicants working on crops and related research.
| Route | Subjects advertised in the 2027–2028 call |
|---|---|
| English-taught master’s | Chemistry; Biology; Biotechnology and Engineering; Biomedical Engineering; Computer Science; Crop Science; Horticulture; Law; professional Business Administration. |
| English-taught doctorate | Biology; Biotechnology and Engineering; Biomedical Engineering; Computer Technology; Software Engineering; Food Science and Engineering; Crop Science; Fisheries; Business Administration. |
| Chinese-taught postgraduate study | A wider list spanning natural sciences, marine and agricultural subjects, engineering, computing, food and pharmacy, law and management. Master’s choices additionally include Chinese-language education, translation and interpreting, philosophy, tourism, finance and economics. |
The official Hainan scholarship notice gives the complete subject lists. I would select the closest academic match rather than assuming that a subject offered at one degree level is available at the other.
02What support is available, and who qualifies?
The scholarship covers the four main study-cost categories: tuition, accommodation, living support and comprehensive medical insurance. Hainan does not print stipend amounts in this notice; the CSC-attributed national scholarship guide gives standard monthly rates of CNY 3,000 for master’s students and CNY 3,500 for doctoral students.
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health, with strong academic ability. The English eligibility text requires a bachelor’s degree and age under 35 for master’s study, or a master’s degree/equivalent and age under 40 for doctoral study.
- Chinese-taught programmes: at least HSK Level 4.
- English-taught programmes, non-native English speakers: IELTS 6.0 overall with every band at least 6.0; TOEFL paper-based 560; or TOEFL iBT 78.
- Native English speakers are exempt from the English test requirement. The call does not publish a general exemption based solely on a previous English-medium degree.
Airfare and an application-fee waiver are not listed. I recommend budgeting for travel and preparation costs rather than treating full scholarship coverage as a promise that every expense will be reimbursed.
03Which documents does Hainan University require?
Build one consistent file for both systems, using the degree and teaching language you have chosen. Hainan’s current checklist requires the following:
- CSC application form completed in Chinese or English; passport information page showing validity beyond September 2028; notarized highest diploma; transcripts from undergraduate study onwards.
- Language evidence; a Chinese- or English-language study plan of at least 1,000 words; two recommendations in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
- Police clearance and the Foreigner Physical Examination Form, which Hainan accepts in Chinese or English. Follow the form’s examination and authentication requirements.
- Applicants already in China must also provide the passport visa page and a transfer certificate from their present university.
Our study-plan guide for Chinese scholarships can help you structure the document; adapt it to Hainan’s programme and minimum length. Use legible scans with consistent personal details. Your study plan should make the academic connection visible: the work you have already done, the question you want to pursue and why the selected Hainan programme can support it.
04How do you apply for Hainan University’s Type B scholarship?
Complete both the CSC system and Hainan’s international-student platform. Read the official Hainan University scholarship notice for its programme lists and submission requirements. The CSC-attributed national scholarship guide provides the standard funding framework described above. A professor’s positive response does not replace either submission or establish that CSC has awarded funding.
- Enter the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System via Campus China. Select Type B and Hainan agency number 10589, complete the form and submit the supporting evidence.
- Apply through the Hainan University International Student Service System as well. Submit the matching programme information and required documents.
- Monitor university messages after review. Hainan normally issues pre-admission letters to successful applicants in mid-March and instructs them to upload the relevant documents to the CSC system.
- Complete any requested updates promptly. Hainan’s recommendation is followed by CSC expert assessment and final selection; pre-admission is an intermediate decision.
05Which Hainan application traps deserve attention?
The call contains inconsistent Chinese and English wording in a few programme names, so match your selection to the actual portal entry. The deadline year also differs between language versions, as explained below.
06What else should Hainan CSC applicants know?
Is this a scholarship for Hainan Medical University?
No. This notice is issued by Hainan University. Similar institution names do not make their medical admissions or scholarship rules interchangeable.
Is a supervisor acceptance letter listed as a mandatory upload?
The current checklist does not list a separate universal supervisor acceptance letter. Academic contact may help establish research fit, but you still need formal university review and both applications.
Does a university pre-admission letter mean I have won?
No. It supports the later scholarship review and must be uploaded when Hainan instructs you. CSC makes the final selection after the university’s recommendation.
07What is the Hainan CSC Scholarship 2027–2028 deadline?
Choose your degree and teaching language, request the academic references and begin the study plan. Having the core file ready leaves time to resolve the date discrepancy without rushing the two submissions. To compare other university windows, use our 2027 Chinese university CSC scholarship deadline guide and follow each institution’s own application rules.
