GLOBE Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2027–2029 Currently Open
The GLOBE Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2027–2029 is open, offering a two-year master’s in Global Change Ecology and Biodiversity Management with participation fees covered and €1,400 monthly support for selected scholars.
An ecology degree can help you understand why ecosystems change. GLOBE connects that understanding with conservation practice, environmental management and the people affected by those decisions. Its route takes you through three European teaching locations and a Mexican summer school, bringing those perspectives into the same programme.
The immediate decision is whether your academic background fits—and whether your English qualification is ready for the first application stage. This guide walks through the countries, funding, eligibility and the two-stage submission process.
01 Where will GLOBE take you?
The GLOBE curriculum moves from ecological foundations to conservation and implementation. These cards show the scheduled shared route; the final thesis location is selected separately.
Universidad Rey Juan Carlos · Madrid
Semester 1: global-change ecology, analytical methods and conservation foundations.
Bangor University · Bangor, Wales
Semester 2: biodiversity conservation with natural and social-science perspectives.
Universidad Autónoma de Tlaxcala · Tlaxcala
Summer school between years: field learning and community engagement.
Universidade de Lisboa · Lisbon
Semester 3: environmental management and putting ecological knowledge into practice.
Semester 4 is a research or technical thesis at a consortium institution or associated partner. You therefore follow a shared taught journey before choosing the setting for your independent work.
02 What does the GLOBE scholarship pay?
The official 2027–2029 scholarship call provides for support across the full 24-month programme. The monthly allowance totals €33,600 over that period; participation fees are covered separately by the scholarship.
The allowance contributes towards accommodation, living expenses, travel, visas and settling in. Those expenses need to fit within your budget; the monthly figure should not be read as an additional promise of free housing or separately reimbursed flights.
I would plan the costs of moving between teaching locations before applying. A funded mobility programme still involves deposits, journeys and different local living costs.
03 Does your background fit GLOBE?
You need a relevant bachelor’s degree equivalent to at least 180 ECTS. The programme names biology, agriculture, environmental sciences, forestry, geography and natural resources among its entry backgrounds, while allowing equivalent degrees.
English must reach B2 by the first-stage deadline. Published minimums include IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72 or Cambridge 160/B2. Exemptions concern nationality or bachelor’s study in a majority English-speaking country under the specified UKVI definition; an English-medium degree elsewhere does not automatically qualify.
Admission and scholarship selection are competitive. All nationalities may apply, but previous EMJM scholarship recipients cannot receive another EMJM scholarship.
04 How to submit the GLOBE Scholarship application?
Use the official GLOBE application page and its current form link. There is no application fee. The distinction below helps you prepare without confusing the initial screening with the later document review.
| Stage | What you provide |
|---|---|
| Initial online form | Identity and academic data, English-test details, a 1–2-minute motivation-video link and two referees’ contact details. |
| If shortlisted | Passport, authenticated degree certificates, English transcripts, language evidence, Europass CV, declaration of veracity and postgraduate-access evidence where required. |
- Prepare your exact degree grades and grading scale, English result and a consistent personal email address.
- Complete the first-stage form, provide the video and referee details, and indicate your scholarship interest accurately.
- If invited, upload the supporting evidence in English. Your passport should remain valid throughout the two-year programme. Applicants educated outside the European Higher Education Area need their university’s certificate confirming postgraduate access; applicants within it provide the corresponding declaration.
- Monitor the invitation and decision messages. Referees are contacted at the later stage; follow the individual instructions for submitting evidence and accepting an offer.
My recommendation is to build the video around one environmental question you want to investigate, supported by your actual coursework, fieldwork or research. That gives your motivation a clear link to GLOBE’s subject.
05 Two GLOBE mistakes that can undo the application
Delayed uploads do not mean delayed eligibility. Your English level must already meet the first-stage cutoff. Also copy grades exactly: GLOBE states that inconsistencies between declared information and supporting records can trigger automatic rejection.
06 Questions before you submit to GLOBE
Does the motivation video require professional production?
The published requirement is a 1–2-minute introduction explaining your motivation; professional editing is not specified. Prioritise clear speech and an accurate explanation of your academic interests.
Do my referees upload letters during the first stage?
No. You provide two referees’ contact details initially, and the programme contacts them if you advance. Ask their permission beforehand so they are ready to respond.
Can I keep another European scholarship alongside GLOBE?
The official call makes overlapping European scholarship funding incompatible for the same study period. Resolve the funding choice before accepting overlapping support.
