Elsevier Foundation Scholarship 2024 for Students

The prestigious OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Awards for Early Career Women Scientists in the Developing World is now open for applications. This is an incredible opportunity for women who have made significant contributions in scientific disciplines and are engaged in research related to inclusive health. The award aims to recognize and support early-career women scientists in the developing world who are contributing to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG3: Good health and well-being.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

  1. Be a woman who has received a PhD in a scientific discipline within the last ten years.
  2. Conduct research in inclusive health and demonstrate how it advances knowledge in this area and contributes to SDG3.
  3. Reside and work for at least five of the last fifteen years in one of the 66 scientifically and technologically lagging countries (STLCs) listed by OWSD.
  4. Be engaged in a STEM field such as Agricultural Sciences, Astronomy, Biological Systems, Chemical Sciences, Computing and Information Technology, Engineering Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences, Physics, or Structural, Cell, and Molecular Biology.

Prize and Benefits

  • Cash Prize: USD 5,000.
  • Travel Grant: An all-expenses-paid trip to attend a relevant international conference.
  • Awards Distribution: Five awards will be distributed, one for each of the four regions (Africa, Arab region, Asia & the Pacific, Latin America & the Caribbean) and an additional “floating” award for an outstanding candidate from any of these regions.

  1. Proof of Residency: Documentation proving five years of residence in an eligible STLC.
  2. PhD Certificate.
  3. Curriculum Vitae.
  4. Full List of Publications.
  5. Motivational Statement: A statement of no more than 2,500 characters describing the quality of research, achievements, impact, and personal/professional challenges overcome.
  6. Reference Letters: At least two reference letters from senior scientists familiar with the applicant’s research.
  7. Evidence of Research Contribution: Detailed evidence on how the research contributes to advancing SDG3.
