About the CWAJ Graduate Scholarship (NJG)
The Non-Japanese Graduate Program (NJG) is designed to support non-Japanese women who are enrolled in a PhD program at a Japanese university. This scholarship is awarded based on academic excellence, the quality and feasibility of your proposed study, and your potential to make a positive impact on society. The NJG Scholarship does not impose restrictions on your field of study or age, making it an inclusive and valuable opportunity for women across various disciplines.

- Number of Scholarships: 2
- Scholarship Amount: ¥2.0 million each
- Scholarship Period: April 2025 to March 2026
- Application Deadline: Monday, October 7, 2024, 23:59 JST
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the NJG Scholarship, you must:
- Identify as a woman.
- Be a non-Japanese national without permanent residency in Japan.
- Be enrolled in a PhD degree program at a Japanese university during the entire scholarship period.
- Reside in Japan from the time of application until the end of April 2025.
- Have not completed any education in Japan before your bachelor’s degree (short-term language study is excluded).
- Not hold other scholarships exceeding ¥1.5 million during the scholarship period.
- Not be a past recipient of a CWAJ award or a CWAJ member.
Ineligible Applicants:
- Those currently studying or working abroad.
- Former recipients of CWAJ awards and members of CWAJ.
Application Process and Timeline
- July 2024: Register for your Application ID Number on the CWAJ website.
- October 7, 2024: Deadline to submit your application, including required documents and reference letters.
- February 2025: Interviews, usually held on a weekend.
- March 2025: Notification of scholarship recipients.
- May 2025: Event announcing the 2025 CWAJ Scholarships.

- Application essay
- Education transcripts (including PhD transcript if applicable)
- Two letters of recommendation
- Copy of your Japanese residence card
- ¥2,000 application processing fee
